My December Book List

This December I decided to pick up new books and finally got the book that I always wanted to have and read. It’s really the cozy season to drink hot chocolate while also reading something new. I decided that instead reading too much self-help, I balanced out my read with fiction that I wanted to read all these years.

I used to make some sort-of book goals but more often than not, when I got immersed in it, I ended up finishing them in less than a week. This time around, I am taking a lot more slower approach. That it’s okay to read without being too fast. I would rather savor every word and learned more than what I normally would. I realized that whenever I did anything too fast, I became easily bored and burnt out. It’s not something I wanted, the same with my approach to film/series and literally anything in my life.

One of the book that I am halfway through is Before the coffee gets cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi. Another one is also a sequel to the book by the same author. These two book are the one that is going to complete my “coffee” literature collection. I’ll be reviewing them soon enough once I finished them.

To improve my health and learn something new, I also added Pre-diabetes diet plan by Hillary Wright. While I am not diabetic but a lot of my family members are and it’s nice to learn about their condition and things that might help/improve their situation. For me, the book serves as a way to learn more about nutrition and making the right food swaps for things I eat that are still unhealthy.

Another book that captivated me the most and makes me want to understand geopolitic and economics more is the book titled Winners Take All by Anand Giridharadas. It is recommended when I was checking out a podcast about Indonesian geopolitics and the presenter mentioned about the book. I am most excited about this one since there are things I want to confirm on that book. While it might not essentially talk about full geopolitics, the economics aspect to it are also something I am intrigued about.

There are some more books that I ordered but hasn’t arrived yet. I also got a few books for my mom to read on her phone as these days she enjoys reading novel while taking care of my dad. She told me that reading lately gives her some sort of consolation in her life. It’s actually nice to hear that books has that effect on her just how it also has an effect on me.

I am officially back to my regular reading schedule and managed to breaking my reader’s block. Reading is a journey and it’s OK if it’s not perfect or if it’s slower than you’d like.

It's nice to hear that you're back to reading again. In my case, I stopped reading books for a few months because I was dealing with severe headaches when I overused my eyes. I spend my days on the laptop due to my online job, and when I still read at night (e-books), my eyes start to tear up, and soon a headache strikes. I prefer reading hard copy books, but since I constantly travel, I don't bring books with me as they would add weight to my luggage. I hope I can get back to reading books again.

Oh! I can understand that. There were days when I just got too tired and overused my eyes. I would really prefer hard copy but they're often a lot more expensive than the e-reader version. So, what I do is read the e-reader first then get the hard copy when I really love the book. Also yes! me too, I move a lot is one of the reason I rarely get books. But whenever I travel, I make sure to buy one book and finish it for the entire trip. Thanks for checking out, are you currently traveling?

You're welcome @macchiata! I just stopped after a 3-month trip. I might resume after the holidays.

Good that you have managed to break your reading block, you have been reading very interesting topics, are your readings based on what you study academically?

Yesterday I saw a post of yours related to the visit to a coffee shop and you are touching again the topic of coffee, just today I detailed your Hive profile and yes, you are a coffee lover hahaha, we have a common taste, I was just curious to know if you are studying something related to coffee at an academic or professional level.

It's a great gesture to have given some books to your mother, I hope she enjoys them a lot.

Thanks for sharing this post with us, best regards!

It depends. For now, 50% of my books is also based on what I am studying and the rest is because I just like to read and coffee. I wish there's a university teaching about coffee but I am mostly discovering everything by myself :) What's your favorite book?

Ah ok, what are you studying, if it is possible to know.

University I don't think so, but there must be courses, it's a matter of researching, somehow the people who produce coffee are trained.

One of my favourites is The Art of War by Sun Tzu.

At the moment, I am studying cybersecurity and informatics. I have that book and recently reading that again. It's such a fascinating book and I wish to study it more.

Great friend, I hope you are doing well with your studies.

Good to know, I hope you enjoy each new reading.

I'm glad to see that you're back to your regular reading Macc. These are some very educational and inspiring books. I don't usually set book goals since I'm trying to get out of my book block. But as the holidays are beginning, I hope to actively immersed in my book journey.

See, it's because it's holiday time and that means more reading time and indoor. That's cause here, the road is jam packed and it's nice to be indoor. The weather sets the mood too. Are you reading anything lately?

@tipu curate

New books always feel good. I hope you enjoy them! I'm glad your mother has some enjoyment from them as well.

It's the first time I gave my mom book since christmas is near and I reckon, she'd be happy receiving something again😊

I appreciate and admire your goals. I'm reading several books at the same time. One on Kindle app, one on Libby (audio book) and a paperback. These are in addition to daily Bible reading. Thanks for sharing.

Family are life, I love the step you took on getting to know more about diabetes. I’ve been trying to finish up a book too and I will just sure I do that this week and write about it.

Oh nice! looking forward to the review :)

It's good to always read and learn new things everyday, it's keep our brain refreshed.. I wrote a post yesterday about having some issue with my vscode. You can help me check if you have got any solutions to that🙏🙏

ooh! I was doing some code on vsc too and got some problem. Will have to take a look at it.

Alright then, and I hope you were able to fix yours too?

I've been experimenting a lot more this year with my reading, trying books that I wouldn't normally have chosen. It's not always been a success but sometimes it has been a very pleasant surprise and I plan to do more of the same next year.

What would be your recommendation? I am open to anything at the moment. Whenever I am reading, I go on binge, at least one book a day hehe. Good luck on your reading journey.

I shall be posting a summary of my favourites reads of 2023 this Thursday, but here are two of them plus one by an author I hadn't read before. Two of my favourites were The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie and Diamonds are Forever by Ian Fleming. I also enjoyed Year One by Nora Roberts, a new author to me.

Can't wait to see the list. Also, I grew up knowing Bond as movies but didn't know there's actually novel from it?😂 will have to read the series now.

Yes, the books came first. They are quite different to the films, with fewer gadgets and less sex and the stories tend to be simpler. They do show their age a bit now but I still find them very enjoyable.

Reading books is very beneficial to a person, it increases the knowledge of a person and in the future we can use all these things in our life.
