I WONDER.

Hello bookworms!

I'm Rosette, a new subscriber here at the Hive Book Club. Actually, I'm also new here at the Hive community, I'm hoping to meet new friends in this community especially because we have the same interest, which is reading! I would love to share to you my thoughts about a book called Wonder by R.J. Palacio.

Here is the front and back cover of the book, although there are other editions of this book since it was adapted into a movie. (The book and the photo is owned by me)

This book is about a young boy who is seen by many people as different. We all are unique in our own ways, be it through physical aspects, the way we think, and even with our talents. Society tends to dictate us who we have to be in order for us to be accepted according to the standards they set. But this doesn't mean we have to force ourselves in their shoes for us to enjoy the privileges of being one with the society. Nowadays, people tend to focus with our looks for us to be liked by many. Some people might try to intimidate us by making us feel insecure with ourselves without even realizing that we have much more to offer more than what it meets the eye. People that we consider as family or friends are sometimes disguised as our own oppressor, which in return, will affect us by pushing others away even though they have good intentions.

Spectators, sometimes turn a blind eye to the injustices of the tormentor just so to be safe from all the trouble they could get if they will interfere. Others may just tell you to let it go or move on from it but they do not understand the feeling of being tormented by other people who thinks they are better thank you, nor the feeling of distress towards yourself, questioning why these things happened to you, whether you deserve to be where you are. I too was a victim of being unable to blend in with society just because I don't have nice teeth. It made me feel insecure about myself for almost 9 years until I was able to fix this what they consider as a flaw. Looking back, I always wonder what would it feel to be perfect or flawless in the eyes of my bullies. I wonder, how would they react if they knew the consequences of what they did to me.

This book also helped me appreciate the differences of many people, it made me think twice before saying something to another person. Who knows, your actions will result to a negative outcome. Always be sensitive towards others, unless if you want them to reflect what you did to them.

I'd like to end my post with a precept from the book of 365 Days of Wonder: Mr. Browne's Book of Precepts, still by R.J. Palacio. This quote is by Edward Everett Hale, and I quote:

I am only one,
But still I am one.
I cannot do everything,
But still I can do something;
And because I cannot do everything,
I will not refuse to do something that I can do.
