Who doesn't know many stories written by the wonderful French writer Jules Verne? visionary of many of the inventions we know today: the submarine, the flight to the moon with the help of a spaceship, the conquest of the world by restless adventurers, races to win wonderful treasures and huge amounts of money?

¿Quién no conoce muchas historias escritas por el maravilloso escritor francés Jules Verne? Visionario de muchos de los inventos que conocemos hoy en día: el submarino, el vuelo a la luna con ayuda de una nave espacial, la conquista del mundo por inquietos aventureros, carreras para hacerse acreedores de maravillosos tesoros e ingentes cantidades de dinero.

He is said to be the Father of Science Fiction because he had the ability to envision many inventions that make our daily lives today as comfortable as possible.

Se dice que es el Padre de la Ciencia Ficción porque tuvo capacidad de visionar muchos inventos que hacen, hoy en día, de nuestra vida cotidiana lo más confortable posible.

Jules Verne was born in Nantes on February 8, 1828, he studied law and married for convenience to live in tranquility; it is said that he was a very sensible and quiet man because in his youth he had received a great beating from his father when he wanted to embark on a ship to earn a fortune and be able to marry, later on, a cousin with whom he was in love. This beating caused Jules Verne to quench his thirst for adventure, but he shows us in his books that his immense imagination had not lost its thirst for adventure.

Jules Verne nació en Nantes el 8 de febrero de 1828, estudió derecho, se casó por conveniencia para vivir en tranquilidad; se dice que era un hombre muy sensato y tranquilo porque en su juventud había recibido una gran paliza de parte de su padre cuando quiso embarcarse en un barco para ganarse una fortuna y poder casarse, mas adelante, con una prima de la cual estaba enamorado. Esta paliza hizo que Julio Verne se aplacara en su sed de aventuras, pero nos demuestra en sus libros que su inmensa imaginación no había perdido su sed de aventuras.

After graduating he began to write plays that were not very popular at the time and from there he began to teach. He then worked as a stockbroker, which allowed him to travel to various parts of the world.

For a novel written in 1875, it embodied for me what the adventurous life of many people in that special time should be like. What the people of the 19th century dreamed of when they learned of so many wonderful things beyond their minds and territories borders.

Para ser una novela escrita en 1875 encarnó para mí como debería ser la vida aventurera de muchas personas en esa época tan especial. Lo que soñaban las personas del siglo XIX al saber de tantas y maravillosas cosas que habían mas allá de las fronteras de su mente y de sus territorios.

I remember the first time I read Mysterious Island, I was about eleven years old, I loved that book from the beginning, it took me to know a world that I didn't know existed. Its exuberant fauna, the enormous amount of minerals they found.

Recuerdo la primera vez que leí la Isla Misteriosa, tenía más o menos once años, adoré ese libro desde el principio, me llevaba a conocer un mundo que ignoraba existiese. Su exuberante fauna, la ingente cantidad de minerales que encontraron.

And the way the chapters are presented? Today one would say that Jules Verne was spoiling his work. I loved reading the chapter and learning about each of the points they made at the beginning.

¿Y la forma de presentar los capítulos? Hoy en día se diría que Jules Verne le hacía spoiler a su obra. A mi me encantaba leer el capítulo y conocer sobre cada uno de los puntos que señalaban al comienzo del mismo.

The Mysterious Island tells the story of the escape in a balloon of five prisoners from a camp in the middle of the American Secession (a war that took place between 1861 and 1865), captured by the Confederate armies of the South. An interesting story that narrates the adventures of five castaways after a great storm and after wandering through the air for several days. The story of how Cyrus Smith, Gedeon Spilet, Nab, Harbert Brown, and Bonaventure Pencroff, together with their dog Top manage to escape from Richmond in a hot air balloon in the middle of a hurricane.

La Isla Misteriosa narra el escape en globo de cinco prisioneros de un campo en plena época de la Secesión Norteamericana (guerra que se vivió entre 1861 a 1865), capturados por los ejércitos confederados Sur. Una historia interesante que narra las peripecias de cinco náufragos que después de una gran tormenta y después de deambular por los aires durante varios días. La historia de como Ciro Smith, Gedeon Spilet, Nab, Harbert Brown y Buenaventura Pencroff, junto a su perro Top logran escapar de Richmond en un globo aerostático en medio de un huracán.

What can an eleven-year-old girl feel when she reads about adventures in a balloon? Suddenly, the protagonists arrive on an island without the slightest idea of where they are? And all the adventures they have lived from the moment they arrive on Lincoln Island? And how they managed through their knowledge of physics, chemistry, and biology to develop little by little what they needed to be able to subsist? Their fight against pirates, and finally, the spectacular escape in the decisive moment of the island when the eruption of the volcano that is crowned as king and as a sign of there are very special things.

¿Qué puede sentir una niña de once años al leer sobre aventuras en globo? ¿Qué de pronto los protagonistas llegan a una isla sin la menor idea de donde se encuentran? ¿Y todas las aventuras que han vivido desde el momento en el cual llegan a la Isla Lincoln? ¿Y cómo lograban a través de sus conocimientos de física, química y biología ir desarrollando poco a lo que necesitaban para poder subsistir? Su lucha contra piratas, y por último, el escape espectacular en el momento decisivo de la isla cuando se produce la erupción del volcán que se corona como rey y como señal de allí existen cosas muy especiales.

I can say, without any fear, that it was one of the first books I read and I enjoyed reading it to the fullest, trying to guess who the mysterious benefactor gave me immense pleasure because I really did not expect it.

Puedo decir, sin ningún temor, que fue uno de los primeros libros que leí y disfruté al máximo de su lectura, tratar de adivinar quien era el benefactor misterioso me produjo un inmenso placer, porque en verdad no me lo esperaba.

And so I immersed myself in the Vernian world and devoured every book by Jules Verne that fell into my hands: Five Weeks in a Balloon; Captain Hatteras; A Captain of 15 Years; The 500 Million Begun; Around the World in 80 Days or 20000 Leagues Under the Sea, I really enjoyed it very much, it allowed me to immerse myself in a world that I only knew through the World Maps.

Y así me sumergí en el mundo verniano y me devoraba cuanto libro de Julio Verne caía en mis manos: Cinco semanas en globo; El capitán Hatteras; Un capitán de 15 años; Los 500 millones de la Begún; La vuelta al mundo en 80 días o 20000 leguas de viaje submarino, en verdad lo disfrutaba muchísimo, me permitía sumergirme en un mundo que solo conocía a través de los Mapamundi.

And I always went back to read the first book that discovered for me a world of adventure, mystery, science, and inconceivable inventions for that time: The Mysterious Island.

Y siempre volvía a leer el primer libro que me descubrió un mundo de aventuras, misterio, ciencia e inventos inconcebibles para la época: La Isla Misteriosa.
