Hey guy. Welcome to another book review by me after taking a short break. I gave being trying to dabble into a couple of things these past few days, and it has being difficult for me. I actually planned on doing a review for the book I earlier stated, "Fighting corruption" by Okonjo Ngozi Iweala, but I got bored of the book half way as it started to talk about numbers and numbers. So, I would be doing a review on this book by William Strunk which I completed today.

I have being writing recently. I even started a newsletter that publish every week. I have being trying to learn how to write better, learn how to tell better stories, etc.; I asked a shrewd friend of mine for books I could read, and he shared a lot, this one was one of them. This book is basically a teaching on how to be better at English in general, especially writing, this makes it a compulsory read for everyone. I am going to be writing only a Review, no view, for the fact that its literature. Sure I have a couple of issues with it, but its minute compared to the benefits of this piece.

MY REVIEW

First off, I'd like to give sir William Strunk a pat on the back saying well done. I edited and erased as I am writing this, as you might have guessed. Every hive user who writes in English should read this book as it would be very useful. One good thing also is that you won't take so much time, concise and brilliant, 77 pages. The book is finely divided into five main categories, elementary rules of usage, elementary principles of composition, a few matters of form, words and expression commonly misspelled, and words often misspelled. Don't take my word for it, take this well and established authors words instead;

"There is little or no detectable bullshit in that book. (Of course, it's short; at eighty-five pages it's much shorter than this one.) I'll tell you right now that every aspiring writer should read The Elements of Style. Rule 17 in the chapter titled Principles of Composition is 'Omit needless words.' I will try to do that here." - Stephen King

If you don't believe the words of Stephen King, I don't think you would believe anyone else. There no much of a review for this one. Its very simple and straightforward. It is a guide to improving your English grammar and overall vocabulary. The book also provides enough examples and usage of the grammars. Another important information which I'd like to share with you all is the explanation the author gave on how to write book reviews for novels.

A novel might be discussed under the heads:

  1. Setting
  2. Plot.
  3. Characters
  4. Purpose

This gives you direction.

There is absolutely no reason you shouldn't read this book.
