When Did you last visit the library?

in Hive Book Club3 years ago
Two years? Five years? Ten years? Okay, maybe I exaggerated a little bit, but it might be that long. They say the library is the treasure of the nation. I grew fond of books and libraries a few years ago after reading "sometimes you win, sometimes you learn" by John Maxwell, changed my life. Maybe you can also attribute it to the fact that I graduated from the university with a degree in Library and information science. Anytime enter a library this days I feel so alive. I last visited a library early last, it was blissful, walking between a shelf, smelling that new book smell, everything about the library is bliss.

We're in a library. Books are the best weapon in the world. This room's the greatest arsenal we could have. Arm yourself!

That was an excerpt from a movie of something, but no truer words have being said.

This is the last library I visited. It is my university library, "John Harris Library". This photo was taken a three years ago. I took a more recent one but for some reason, I can't locate it in my photo gallery. I was notorious for never visiting the library, not for anything. I always felt it was prestigious to go through your years of study and never visit the library yet make a good great, well, I achieved the former, the later, not so much. After spending my original four years of study, I still went ahead and got and extra year, mainly due to my unseriousness. It turns out the library isn't just a place to go and read school books and what not, it turns out the library indeed was a treasure island that had real life gems arranged all over the shelf waiting for explorers to venture into. I was indeed the explorer on a faithful and I encountered treasure.

A book by the Argentine-canadian anthologist, that possesses a deep insight on life in general. A part of the book made me realize very important factor about my life, about how the body of different individuals work differently, at different times. Basically, its a book a book about libraries and reading in general. The stories told in the book makes it all the more a riveting read. A bummer though, I never finished the book as school came hard on me with exams, final year academic projects and all.

I walked in between this structures and if felt so good. I still remember this day like it was yesterday. I have being trying to look for a public or even a private library around me that I can sign up for, but it seem an herculean task at the moment. It just seems like the country isn't putting enough effort and resources into libraries. Hopefully soon I'd get myself signed up for a library and start visiting more frequently. What about you? When last did you visit any library? What do you think of libraries?.
Sort:

I haven't been to a library in years, but I would spend HOURS and HOURS in them back in the days before internet.

Those days were great. I'm Trying to re-ignite my desire for libraries

I seldom visit my library, but I use it daily! Most of the books I read are borrowed digitally from my library. I love browsing through the selection of digital books that are offered almost as much as I used to love perusing the shelves. Maybe more, because I can do it from my comfy chair! I also use their Video app and can find some of the best movies and documentaries there that aren't offered on the other TV channels. My library is an important part of my daily life!

Your such a fascinating person. You're very right there. The digital age has made it easier for bookworms like you, ;). My electronic shelf is my most priced possession now, haha.

2019!

During the community service, I helped set up a village library and their database system. It was pretty interesting experience and that's probably the last time, I visited a library. After that, I don't quite recall but library is where I spend a lot of my time other than in the coffee shop.

I couldn't even doubt that your experience with the library set up was interesting. I literally studied Library and Information science in the university, so most of what I think and read about are books and library related. :)

I guess you would agree with me that Every time spent in a library is a time well spent.😁

I learned the classification system and it was pretty insightful and important. You must have a lot of fun with it. It helps me find book easier whenever I am at the library 🤣 and I can lecture anyone about it now. I suppose, if all else fail, I'd just find a job as a librarian.

🤣🤣🤣.
The library is a fun place.

Wwwwoooow, which classification scheme did you learn?

I had to learn the Dewey decimal classification and we were using a software from the Indonesian national library too. I forgot its name but the data entry was extremely tedious.

I guess its a public library.

Sounds like you did a lot of work. Something you should be proud of
