See how it is made and enjoy Bika Talago directly

If we leave the city, apart from enjoying the views or tourist destinations in the city, we must also not miss the various culinary delights which of course are typical foods or drinks found in the city. Sometimes the food or drink is also available in the city you live in, but I am very sure there will be a difference in taste if the food and drink is cooked or served directly from the city of origin.

Like today, for example, after I searched my various social media, I found one of the culinary delights of Talago Village, one of the villages in Tebing Tinggi City, West Sumatra Province. The name of this culinary delight is Bika Talago, because it comes from Talago Village. This village is on a hill and I just found out that when I came to this place I thought the cake shop was very dirty because there was a lot of dust here, but I was wrong because it was volcanic ash that came from the active Mount Merapi in Sumatra. This west and it has been 1 month since this mountain experienced an eruption, and this dust reached this shop.

In this village, not only this stall sells grilled Bika, but there are many Bika sellers lined up in this village. What is unique about this village is the existence of a small lake next to this Bika stall, not only that, the view of the mountains. and the wind that blows very lightly and the cool air makes me feel at home in this place for a long time, but unfortunately because the volcanic eruption has not finished until now, I decided not to linger in this shop for long because I'm afraid of dust. Volcanism will harm my health.

This bika is a type of snack that can be included as a snack or dessert category and I have to explain little by little with you about this Bakar Talago bika

1. Shape, texture
The shape of this talago grilled bika is round and the texture is rough on the surface and soft on the inside, this is due to the large amount of grated coconut contained in the grilled bika.

2. Taste
Because this bika dough uses a lot of coconut, the resulting taste is more dominantly savory and sweet at the same time. There are 2 flavor variants in this grilled bika, namely palm sugar and white sugar, but the savory taste produced by the white sugar dough is much different. it tastes better and I like it better compared to the one using palm sugar. When it enters your mouth, the fragrance of this bika is very pronounced even though this cake is classified as a very simple cake, then when it enters your mouth, the savory and sweet flavors enter at the same time and the soft bika cake melts into. This is very tasty at a price of Rp. 3000 per seed is a very cheap snack to enjoy

3. Manufacturing process
When I was at the stall, I had the opportunity to see the process of cooking bika and it turned out that it was rice flour mixed with palm sugar, in one place the mixture was rice flour with white sugar, then mixed with coconut, then put into a round mold that had been coated. with banana leaves then burned in a jug, at first I thought the jugs contained firewood and were still in the burning process to be prepared for the process of cooking grilled bika, but it turned out that in the burning stove there were two jugs, the bottom jug was contains bika dough which will be burned, and the top layer is a jug containing firewood which is burned to cook the bika, so indirectly they use a traditional oven to make this bika, it's fitting that the aroma produced by the bika is very fragrant because the cooking process is like This, and the jugs made for cooking come from clay.

This is a healthy snack and can last up to 5 days and I am still not satisfied to enjoy this cake, and I will give my stomach a rest from this tempting cake,
Greetings from Maytom, and healthy greetings to all of us

@maytom you're most welcome

I think I can smell the delicious coconut. I love those stoves. What an exotic treat if I could ever try this. The coconut here comes in packages. Fresh coconut is old and dry. Thanks for sharing.

I once bought dried coconut at the supermarket and it turned out that it tasted different, not fresh and the smell was very different @carolynstahl
