A First Look at the Future of 3D Printing

Hey everyone, it’s your boy Art, back with an exciting unboxing experience! Joined by my friend Minigunner, we recently got our hands on the highly anticipated Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra 16K, a pre-release model of the newest addition to Elegoo’s stellar lineup of resin #3DPrinters. Alongside it, we unboxed the Mercury X Bundle (a wash and cure machine) and explored some resin and accessories. As a 3D printing newbie, I’m thrilled to dive into this cutting-edge tech and share our first impressions with you. Let’s break it down.

The Star of the Show: Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra 16K

The Saturn 4 Ultra 16K is a beast of a machine, and trust me—it looks even more impressive in person than in pictures. Straight out of the box, its sleek, futuristic #design screamed “Transformers vibes.” The 16K resolution promises ultra-detailed prints, and with built-in Wi-Fi (a major upgrade from older models), it’s designed for ease and connectivity. #Elegoo even included a USB drive for files, gloves, masks, filters, and two scrapers (one metal, one plastic) to keep things clean and safe.

One small gripe? The lid could use a handle or an automatic open feature, especially when you’re wearing gloves and juggling resin. It’s a minor nitpick, but a button to pop the lid would make the workflow smoother. Still, the vibrant display and sturdy build had us hyped to fire it up. After a quick setup (and a peek at the manual—yes, we read it!), the system booted up with a satisfying hum, ready to bring our creations to life.

Mercury X Bundle: Wash and Cure Made Easy

Next up, we unboxed the Mercury X Bundle, Elegoo’s wash and cure station designed to streamline post-processing. The machine’s sleek design and vibrant colors immediately caught our eye—it’s both functional and #stylish. It comes with a handy tool kit and clear instructions, though we chuckled at the warning not to overfill the liquid container (don’t worry, we’ll keep it safe!).

The Mercury X is perfect for cleaning and curing resin prints, ensuring a professional finish. We set it up on a separate table to keep our #workspace organized, and we can’t wait to see how it performs in action.

Resin and Accessories: Ready to Create

We also got a couple of resins to play with, including Space Grey Water-Washable Resin 8K. For now, we kept them in their boxes, but we’re eager to test them out with the Lychee Slicer #software, which I’ve been experimenting with to prep files for printing. The Saturn 4 Ultra came with additional goodies like alcohol sprayers and films for the resin vat, ensuring we have everything needed to start printing safely and efficiently.

First Impressions: A Newbie’s Perspective

As someone new to 3D #printing, I’m both intimidated and excited by the Saturn 4 Ultra 16K. The machine’s premium build quality and thoughtful accessories make it approachable, even for beginners like me. Minigunner’s guidance has been invaluable, and the included manual is a lifesaver for navigating the setup. The built-in Wi-Fi and USB support feel like modern touches that simplify the process, though we’ll need to dive deeper into the software and printing workflow to unlock its full potential.

What’s Next?

We’re itching to run some test prints and see what this 16K resolution can do. From miniatures to intricate models, the possibilities seem endless. We’ll share a follow-up with our results, tips for beginners, and maybe even some cool creations. Stay tuned!

Final Thoughts

The Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra 16K and Mercury X Bundle have already made a strong first impression. The printer’s sleek design, high-resolution capabilities, and user-friendly features make it a standout, while the wash and cure station promises to keep our workflow tidy. For anyone looking to dive into resin 3D printing, this setup feels like a fantastic starting point.

I know you said you are a 3D printer newbie, but what experience do you have with Filament printers and if any would you recommend any brands/models?

I am still looking through which one I want to pick up and need some advice :) (Filament only though for me)

Well, we use 3 printers at work. Thr brand is Prusa. Very reliable printers. They print every day for the past 2 years and they never had anny issues.

I haven't heard of Prusa yet. I will check it out thanks!
