Disruption is something that people believe they understand yet it appears the do not have a full grasp on it. This is one of the most important concepts of our age.
We live in a time when disruption is happening all over the place. The key to get about this concept is that disruption obliterates things. It is not a subtle process. Sure, it is hidden for a long period of time and then it is everywhere.
In this video I discuss how important it is to be firmly aware the depth of this idea. There are a few examples with timelines which help to illustrate how many people missed what was happening before them.

While we live in an era of disruptive technologies, many use it as a buzz word to draw attention to their product and nothing more ( Theranos comes to mind)

That might be true but the buzz is not the technology nor the improvements made.
And for every Theranos, there are dozens (if not hundreds) of companies working on viable solutions.
Those who get caught up in those types of situation miss the entire boat. It is the same with crypto, those who believed it was all scams and criminals.

Buzz is what gets presented on the news, technology can be complicated to grasp and predict even for professionals, I mean the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) even featured Theranos on their youtube channel, if anyone they should have known better

I am very interested in how 3D printing will transform the industry. I just don't know how far spread it will become because housing will be under pressure from the decreased building costs. It would mean anyone can possibly create anything if they had a printer and materials.

That is exactly what it means. People will be producing things for pennies on the dollar compared to what it costs today. A piece often overlooked is the fact that, when we get personalized 3-D printers, the shipping costs for products goes away.
This is really the game changer. We are a long way from that point where you will be printing a lot of your necessities in your house. But we are moving towards it, albeit slowly at this point.
All of manufacturing will become disrupted.
