Motivation is, in a living organism, the component or the process that regulates its commitment to a specific activity.
It determines the triggering in a certain direction with the desired intensity and ensures the continuation until the outcome or the interruption.
This notion is distinguished from potential, smell or being positive. Motivation takes a prominent place in organizations these days. It is crucial for learning (including in infants) and generates productivity in many personal and professional activities.
Usually manifested by the deployment of a power (in various aspects such as symmetry, confidence, perseverance), motivation is sometimes trivially assimilated to a "reserve of energy".
But more than a form of “potential capacity”, the motivation to regulate a multitude of parameters relating to the opportunities of an environment and the demands of a situation. The role of motivation is therefore proportionate to the degrees of ambiguity and ambivalence of a situation: it must dispel the complexity or even the confusion of the data and give them different values before drawing a conclusion on the level of behavior: choice and investment in the preferred direction.
