There's nothing like Christian traditional rulers. A Christian or pastor should not aspire to sit on the stool of a cultural deity.

Sitting on such a stool as its traditional head or ruler means that you have decided to represent the culture and tradition of its people.

Hence, don't try to christianize it. If you do, you will have problem with the people.

This is the reason so many traditional rulers in Nigeria who are Christians are having issues with the stool of the cultural deity on which they sit as head.

There's a king in Delta State who is a Christian. He was the one who introduced me to the Late Ogiame Atuwatse the II. The last time I visited him, he narrated how some of his people no longer treat him with the kind of respect he deserves.

Well, I couldn't tell him, even though I'm sure he should know. A traditional ruler who replaces the rites of culture with Christian beliefs will definitely be stood up to by the same people who expect him to be the custodian of the culture that he was enthroned to represent.

If you are a Christian, leave traditional stool for traditional people. Don't try to inherit it even if it's your right. There's a difference between Christianity and cultural tradition. You can preach the Gospel without sitting on the stool.

Also, being on the stool doesn't mean that the people will all become Christians.

For instance, before the enthronement of Prince Tsola Emiko who is widely believed to be a Christian, the Itsekiri god was consulted because there were different contenders for the throne.

In traditional Itsekiri religion, Oritse is the supreme deity and creator of the world. But they believe in the existence of other deities, such as Umale Okun, god of the sea, and Ogun, god of iron and war.

The choice of the present Olu came by the Oracle or Umale Okun. This is how these traditional stools are. They are cultural stools.

The eternal Spirit called God is not the one that inspired the operations and culture of these stools.

Oracles don't just make a choice of the individual he wants on the throne. It also demands fetish sacrifices.

In most cases, these Christian traditional rulers often would say that they won't indulge in the sacrifices but that it could be done on their behalf.

Who is deceiving who? You are running away from what you are a custodian of. A word is enough for the wise.
