The beehive represents "Industry" and the early pioneers of utah have always held it as a special symbol of their culture and work ethic. It's the state symbol... and is on pretty much everything Utah related. In fact the name of the territory they proposed before Utah became a state was Deseret... which means "Industry" as in industrious... not as in machinery.
The flag has always had a HIVE as the symbol and even the new proposed one is looking to remain that way... I hope they vote it in because this new flag looks awesome.
