Is watching movies a sin? | The Old Path

As human beings, we are greatly moved by the things we hear and see. Our eyes and ears can be considered as gates or portals. We should be careful be careful of the things we allow to get in as they can be of great influence to us. Movies are one of the major influences to our behaviour because of the things we see which are stored in our brains.

There are particular types of movies can watch that may set you in a particular mood especially if you watch them a couple of times. I remember watching superhero movies as a kid. It's crazy that I started to come to the point where I believed having super powers has a possibility and began to imagine myself having some of those powers.

Now that is on a light side. Where the problem may arise is when you watch movies that have a negative impact on you, especially as a Christian.

We need to be mindful of the kind of movies we watch. A large percentage of the entertainment industry is actually being influenced by darkness if we should examine closely.

Most movies we see today are centred on the aim of spurring up desires in us, making us have appetites for things of the world. We know as Christians that we are not to be entangled with the things of the world.

1 John 2:15 - Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

We are to avoid the things of the world like a plague. We should be selective of the kind of movies we watch, especially while growing up. Some of the characters displayed by children were actually as a result of the kind of movies the engage in most times.

Excess of movie watching also distracts us from more important things that we are meant to do.
