Invented for Space - Used on Earth: Smoke Detectors

in STEMSpace6 days ago

Smoke Detectors were invented in the 1970s.

NASA and Honeywell developed them for Skylab to detect fires, now standard in homes and buildings for safety.

Fun Fact: Early Skylab detectors were so sensitive they caught astronauts’ hairspray, leading to adjustable models that saved countless lives.
