Mexican Murals - An Old Wolf in the Condesa [CCC's Street Art Contest]

in StreetArt8 hours ago (edited)

Okay, so this mural is a bit of a relic. I took the photo of it ... somewhere around six to twelve months ago, then forgot about it entirely, so it never made it into a post. In fact, it is anyone's guess if the image is still up. However, considering that it's a garage door it is painted on, I would assume it is there, unchanged. The colors may have faded a bit, but that's probably all. If you want to check it out yourself, the location is the corner of Citlaltépetl and Culiacán streets in the Condesa neighborhood of Mexico City, only two corners south from the Parque México. Interestingly, this same garage door mural has also been captured on StreetView, which again does not guarantee that it's still there.

Flow Like a ... What?

It's impossible to walk by this door without looking back at a pair of piercing eyes, probably in the same piercing way. It is not as intimidating as an encounter with a real life wolf would be, which I am guessing, since I never had the pleasure to experience this myself. The eyes of the animal are also different colors, making its look even more intriguing. The overall size and strength it suggests lets us enjoy the experience to the fullest.

The natural beauty of the beast has been combined with additional lines, shades, and patterns, giving the whole image a combined feel of lifelike and cartoonish characters. Overall, I think it has been very well executed by Leo Tezcucano, who is clearly identified in the top right corner. The links in the bottom left corner, on the other hand are possibly those of a commercial sponsor. In the bottom right corner the words give the observer an opportunity to think: Flow Like a Wolf. Do wolfs actually flow? And if so, how do they do it?

With these cryptic words I want to leave you for now. Please make sure to visit CCC's Street Art Contest #233, this week's edition of the weekly contest where you can see tons of amazing murals from around the world, or have the chance to win some cool prizes if you post one yourself. Also, if you're curious about all the murals I have posted about, take a look at my ongoing series Mexican Murals.
