I encountered a terrifying chimera and attempted to defeat it using a mix of handgun fire and explosive gas cylinders. Despite taking damage from my own blast, I tried to burn the monster and followed up with arrows once my ammo ran out. I finally engaged in a desperate melee battle to finish the fight, but I was finished instead.

This chimera named Defect gave me a feel of fighting in a Resident Evil game because of its gruesome appearance. Its skin looked like a patchwork of different creatures, and the way it snarled made my blood run cold.

After jumping on the stone statue where the monster couldn't reach me, I started shooting it with my handgun for a moment to test its defenses. I could see the bullets sparking off its thick hide, but the creature didn't seem bothered by the small-caliber rounds.
I kept firing, hoping to find a weak spot or at least distract it while I planned a more effective way to deal some real damage.

When I understood I was not doing much from the safety of the statue, I jumped off that height to try and blast a gas cylinder. I moved quickly, keeping the central pillar between me and the chimera to avoid its attacks.

I climbed on that ledge of the wall and I shot a cylinder from there, which blew up, and it didn't just damage the monster, it damaged me as well because I was standing far too close to the explosion. The force of the blast sent a shockwave through the air, and I even fell off the ledge, hitting the hard floor with a heavy thud.

I climbed up the edge of that wall again despite the pain in my limbs to regain my tactical advantage. From there I shot down another gas cylinder which made a big blast and it looked like the monster was finally in trouble.

The monster got heavy damage for getting burned for a moment, and it stumbled blindly through the smoke-filled arena. I watched from above, hoping that the secondary explosions would be enough to finish the job.

I was hoping the monster would die with the flame on his body, but it recovered after a moment and let out a roar. I started shooting it with the leftover arrows I had as I already spent all the bullets of the handgun during the initial phase of the fight.

So, after shooting the beast with some arrows, it seemed like it was stunned for a moment. I jumped down and I started attacking it with my melee weapons, swinging with everything I had left.

But suddenly, the beast turned around and it attacked me heavily, catching me with a powerful swipe that sent me flying across the room. I landed hard. Then the monster got to kill me without giving me chance to recover.
I'll show what happens next later.
I personally took all the screenshots from my play and I used a logo of the game from online to use in the thumbnail.
This is Pikachuuuuu signing off. Over and out.

Using the statue for positioning and testing the handgun first was a smart move. You quickly realized it wasn't effective and adapted instead of wasting time.
Yeah, once it was clear the handgun was weak, changing plans was the best move, or I'd say only move.

So, even though the handgun didn't do much damage, it allowed you to observe the monster's patterns before changing your strategies. You almost had him after that second gas cylinder blast, but bad luck.
Yeah, that first phase was more about learning than damage.
