Well, the game says somewhere in the heart of Europe and a reviews says this which is pretty accurate.

Hirschfelden = Central Europe. German place names and people, and the presence of serious mountains, argues this is in southern Germany.

And the species that are found in this map are from the same geographical locations too. They modelled many maps like a close replica (much smaller ofc) and added the native species and all to make you experience that you are really out on an adventure.

And good choices #2 and #9 are nice shots.
