No Shadow - Early Spring?

A kind of normalish start to the month of February. We started with some snow on the first, only about 3 inches of very fine light weight dry snow. That was kind of nice, normal. It looked like we might warm up enough for some rain so I cleared the vehicle in case we wanted to go somewhere later in the week.

It did not warm up enough for rain, but we did get some more snow on the second of the month, about four and a half inches, still very light weight very dry powdery snow. Nothing like the mess that the lower forty-eight got.

Still it was enough for two days of snow that the plow guy showed up. Totally unexpected. I really did not expect them to show for this light weight snow, but was glad he did because you just never know what the weather will do.

Picture time:

This is what it looks like as I try to abck out of my parking space. ISome snow piles beginning to build up.

My secondary parking area, I park here while he finishes the driveway and my main parking area can then be cleared.

It does not take the plow operator very long to get the driveway cleared, I am by no stretch of the imagination a morning person at all, and he showed up in the morning. i much prefer it when he hits us up in the afternoon, but I am not going to complain.

So it was get dressed, hurry down stairs and start the car and start clearing the previous days snow. I was very glad I had cleared the first 3 inch snow fall from it the day before.

The wide view, this was handheld eight images stitched together:

Not a very good picture set, but with the overcast and no tripod it was the best I could do. I was surprised that it did not snow again after he had left, we got lucky.

I did some editing on this next shot, minor in that I let the program do it. The image is comprised of 3 images stitched together and then using another program auto leveled so it is a bit brighter looking than the others. The view of the in-out section of our driveway.

Okay only one more picture, the view from on high, looking at the driveway from the upstairs window.

Two images stitched together. I've never seen a bird go in the bird house, but they like to sit there and look down for goodies on the deck.

It was a pretty bleak and dreary looking day when he came to plow. I still think we were very fortunate that it did not snow again that day. I'm pretty sure if a certain famous groundhog lived in Alaska where I am, that he would not have seen his shadow on that special day, so I hope we do get an early spring, I am ready for it already and we have only had a few days of single digit temperatures and have not been below 0 F yet that I am aware of, so we continue with our nice mild winter.

Vegetation is very, very similar to that in the Nordic countries in Alaska. I don't know much about this topic except that the most common spruce is the black spruce as opposed to the European spruce.

Alaska looks very much like Norway.

A lot of similar trees and wildflowers as Norway, we have both white and black spruce, along with most types of birch, I love it when the wildflowers start to bloom and we get big areas of Fireweed, Shasta Daisy and Lupine along with a lot of others.
