Since the beginning of this year I have been sharing some memories in video format here on #TBT Thursdays of what was the tour of my choral group in Spain. This post would mean the last of what were my emotions in each of the concerts we experienced the early spring of 2024, which coincided with Easter. Visiting Spain was to spend most of the time in Madrid, before starting the tour through the autonomous communities and cities of the interior and also when returning from them, but the reality is that it was only a presentation in the capital of the country.
This concert took place on Saturday of Glory, March 30, 2024 at the Ateneo de Madrid, and as you can see in the video I share above, it was the most joyful of all, especially for the repertoire. I think our director forgot that we were in Holy Week and the sacred music decreased notably to interpret our Venezuelan choral repertoire and some international choral arrangements, but very energetic. There was a special reason, it was not only the last concert, but almost all the former members of our choral group and many well-known Venezuelans live in Madrid, in fact it was huge the amount of people who could not enter the hall, and is that the Ateneo de Madrid, in my opinion, seemed a little small for the amount of people that we are.
Halfway through the concert our director let all the former members of the choir on stage and there were more than 20 more people. We were cramped, but it was one of the most emotional moments of the tour. That day was the only day we played the cuatro, our national popular instrument par excellence and I remember that out of nowhere we played music that we had not sung for a long time such as Un Heladero con Clase, Golosinas Criollas, Aires de Golpe Tuyero, Venezuela y el Tramao, which you can see in the video I shared at the beginning of this post, and that today I bring courtesy of the choir's archives.
In addition to the former members of the choir, we all have a friend or relative who left Venezuela and now lives in Madrid, and in fact, many of our friends, musicians and relatives who came from France, Portugal, Italy and Germany also came to this concert in the Spanish capital. They queued up very early in the morning to get in because there were not so many seats and to this day I doubt that any Spaniard has witnessed this concert, it was like a Venezuelan party in Madrid.... I also remember that it was the longest concert of the tour, we sang 21 pieces and it lasted more than two hours, good for the soul, but lousy for our feet 😅 and although the emotions were immense this concert does not enter in my top 3 favorites, the only thing I know is that the day we had left in Madrid would be very special, we no longer had to take care of our voices, so our concert was the beginning of living our last day in Spain as what it really was: the last day in Spain. It still makes me happy to have seen so many people and many promises of reunion are kept until then, hopefully life will allow it 🙏
Hello friend, how beautiful I sing the choir and how beautiful it must be to see in another country how Madrid is delighting each piece so many countrymen, it must be a note. The choir reminds me of when I worked at the Vicente Emilio Sojo music conservatory in my city and I listened to the orchestra rehearse since where I rehearsed next door was my Treasury office I was the treasurer there I lasted 6 years I think they taught three times a week, but it didn't bother me I loved it and I needed it when I came to the headquarters building of the governorate and I came back because the problem of transport and gasoline started. They are memories that must be treasured, Greetings.
Thank you very much for your great support, especially for watching the video. Here in Caracas one of the rehearsal rooms is at Maestro Abreu's administrative headquarters, and the workers also spend hours delighting in the sound of the singers or the orchestra.
Madrid was a great experience, we moved many feelings there through the music and it makes us see that the connection with what is ours is kept alive despite the distance. Thank you for your visit and I send you a mega digital hug 🙏
Both with music and photography, it's about being able to remember those moments and experiences you had back then. Cheers!
Thank you very much Wil, it was very exciting for me to write and edit this publication. Your support is very valuable!...
This is so beautiful. I love the way and manner your beautiful choir do present their song ministration. Each time I listen to them I get refreshed.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful pictures too. I love them all.
Thank you very much for watching my video, it is a great help for my post and I feel that my message reaches that corner of your brother country. Hugs!!!
Sometimes the most significant concerts are not the ones we enjoy the most technically, but in the soul. Seeing so many people together, friends, family, former members... that's not just a concert, it's a kind of reunion with the homeland. You gave us a window to that tour.
A hug brother... Have a happy and blessed day.
Sometimes I think that this concert was more special for all those who were waiting for us in Madrid than for us, who were a bit tired from the two weeks of touring, although we still left everything on stage. Thanks brother!...
You feet would be saying good bye to you 😆 but I am sure that all the praisers who were witnessing your performance must be admiring efforts, hard work and passion of you and your big squad.
Hahahaha, that's right my friend, a lot of time standing and immobile, but after that I was walking around Madrid until after midnight with those same shoes hahahaha. Thank you very much for your kind words and for watching my video today 🙏
A vos, buenas noches!!
It's exciting to see the video with so much talent gathered in that room, what it will be like to be there living the experience. How nice to see our cuatro and maracas in those distant lands.
The maracas were played in some other Spanish city, possibly in Granada, but that cuatro traveled all over Spain and he only had to dress up for this last concert in Madrid hahahaha, but at least he arrived alive, poor guy who had to take care of him so much 😅 Thank you my friend! 🙏
Thank you so much my friends 🙏
