Catamaran ride

Seeing a post on Hive today about a boat ride, i.e. some dolls on a boat in Amsterdam, I was reminded of a boat ride we had many years ago. Of course, we weren't dolls, we were real people, and it was on the Mediterranean Sea. Our means of transportation was a catamaran, but anyway, the memories came to me today about this event that I am going to share with you in this Throwback Thursday post.

Although it was June (June 6, 2014, to give you the exact date of this event), we were pretty well dressed, as if for winter. And the sky looked like that too, gloomy, threatening with rain. In the end, only the wind on the open sea brought us that winter feeling, and I know that long after this experience, we remembered the cold that went through our bones. Brrrrr.

In this photo, I am the one with a grey/white jacket, and my son is the boy in the blue jacket. We were looking toward Sierra Helada. If we looked towards the marina where we boarded the catamaran, we would see the town of Altea and the Sierra de Bernia mountain behind the town.

Close to the marina, there were other boats that we met as the town is well-known for its long tradition of using boats. In the past, Altea made its living from fishing. Nowadays, it is tourism that brings money to the town.

I don't remember how much the ticket for this catamaran trip cost, but my husband says it wasn't expensive, meaning we bought the tickets in advance and, when the day of the trip arrived, there was no turning back. The weather was as it was, grey, so I think that's why the photos are a little darker. Or because they are 11 years old.

So, we were heading to Sierra Helada, the hill that separates two towns, on one side is Benidorm and on the other, L'Albir and Altea. This was the first time we went to see the side of the hill that is surrounded by water. The cliffs are so tall and of interesting shape that it was a must to go and see them, regardless of the weather conditions.

Here you can see the lighthouse of L'Albir. I have walked there countless times, of course, on the path that leads to it, but I have never seen it from its other side, from the sea. It looks like a tiny decoration on the tall cliffs.

The enemies that wanted to attack the coast in the past could see it from this angle. Oh, but we were not pirates; we were the tourists in this case,😆 taking a catamaran ride.

Leaving behind the bay of Altea, we arrived at a part of the Sierra Helada that was a completely new sight for me. The cliffs were impressive!! We felt so small.

I am not sure if this little island has a name or not, let me check... Hmm, yes, it seems that it is called Illeta Penyes d'Arabí, I checked now on Google Maps. I suppose that only the seagulls have permission to live there. 😁

At one moment, this catamaran ride had to finish, and we had to head back towards the coast. This photo probably tried to be a representation of ropes and lines, and who knows what. 😂

It was our first and at the moment only catamaran ride (we had similar boat rides, but actually I don't remember if we had another one on this type of boat, on a catamaran, maybe yes, but I can't recall it... 😳 ).

This from 2014 can't be forgotten - because of the cold in June, and for sure because of those magnificent cliffs of the Sierra Helada!!

We made it back to the shore safe, yes, it is just that some people here involved in this ride got seasick 😅

so happy humpday went to happy throw up day ?

Almost 😆

The views are beautiful and the sea is always a pleasure to enjoy. But what struck me most is that almost no one has a phone in their hand. The photos can serve as proof for when you tell your grandchildren: there was a time before smartphones! 😁😘

Yes, you are right. :) Although I have noticed a few phones, but these photos were also made with a camera, for example. The phones in those days were not as good as today. Good, old days before the good smatphones hahha

My mind moved to the feeling of knowing the lighthouse from the ground and then seeing it from the sea. It is that I dream to go out in catamaran and see Havana from the sea. It is not something that many Havana have done. Many permits are needed to navigate in these waters ☹️ {(despite the good weather that we enjoy much of the year)}
😁The name of the small island is very large 😂

Hahaha, the name of that little island is bigger than the island itself haha.

Good evening @mipiano, I loved this walk between rocks and cliffs. The two images of the lighthouse are the ones that impressed me the most because of how tiny it looks in that landscape. Thanks for sharing these memories of a month of that cloudy June.

A big hug.

Good afternoon @enraizar, I am glad you lived this one, you see, not just deserts and creepy places that I visit 😂

I wish we had some cloudy and cold days in June this year... 😆

A hug to you too, thank you 😇

I wish we had some cloudy and cold days in June this year... 😆

Ojalá. Muy buenas noches @mipiano.

That ride was a reason why I didn't take a ride at #HiveFest Split boat... A lot of memories of this one kept my determination to stay on firm ground alive!

🤣 😂

I know 😆

And it was also the same cold in Split that day, so it was a good choice you preferred to stay on firm ground 😉

The size of the lighthouse in relation to the cliff shows how imposing the latter is. Amazing how the images evoke memories even though 10 years have passed...you still feel the cold in your bones 🥶😬. Beautiful pictures by the way 😉. Un abrazo.

I wish I could feel now that cold hahaha, when the heatwave hits, then we miss that cloudy and cold day haha. Thank you, 😇 🤗

Beautiful memories and beautiful Mediterranean landscapes—for me, they are a dream that I hope to make come true soon. It's impossible not to feel like we're traveling with you on this boat, ha ha ha. You've described it so clearly that just thinking about it makes me feel a little seasick, hahaha. I imagine your son or @ph1102 might have felt a little queasy too. I'd probably be wearing my black coat to protect myself from the cold 🤣 Thank you for being part of #TBT Thursdays. I love you my friend! ❤️

just thinking about it makes me feel a little seasick, hahaha

Oh my... sorry 😂 You see that Ph1102 was indeed feeling seasick haha
The black coat would be perfect here 😇

Upon reading the title I smile because katamaran in Tagalog here in Philippines means laziness, but anyway you had a great experience riding that boat and those hills look amazing.

Oh really? I didn't know that hahaha, well, we could be lazy on a catamaran ride, so it fits ;)

Yes it tamad means lazy and katamaran means laziness hehehe

You could be an undercover pirate, and the lighthouse would detect you if you got any closer... be careful!

Seriously, what beautiful views and what a beautiful trip. It doesn't matter that it was cloudy; it's beautiful, and you enjoyed it with your family, which is the most important thing!🤗

untitled.gif

Maybe 😂

We went on a different boat ride in another year, to a little island. As Ph1102 gets seasick when we have boat rides, we don't go many times, but I would like to find those photos too, I don't know at the moment where they are hahaha

Long live pirates!!! Yes! I hope you find those photos, they must be great!

I feel as if that lighthouse was following you with its eyes, it gave me chills, or is it that I see weird things everywhere hahahahaha 😂 relax my friend, they are not pirates, they are tourists 👀

The seagulls warned the lighthouse that everything was ok and that's why you enjoyed a beautiful ride ❤️ although I don't trust much, surely that icy breeze was sent by them from the island, birds are like that 🦉

Thanks to the seagulls then that the lighthouse didn't send any alarm, and we were not attacked! How nice the birds are!! 😇 But those same birds could send some of that icy breeze now to Spain haha 😆

This is the experience, it is always remembered, whenever we see someone's pictures and posts, we remember our time and the most beautiful thing here is when we are looking at the sea, looking at the water and there is a beautiful wind blowing.

I love travelling by catamarán..There is one to my small island. Is a beautiful trip...!
