Ingredients you need

  • Corn Flakes (about 4 cups)
  • Egg whites (about 4 eggs worth)
  • Vanilla Ice Cream (about 1 quart)
  • Tortilla Shells (1 shell for two servings)
  • Sugar & Cinnamon mixed together in a shaker
  • Vegetable oil (about a liter)

Preparation Items

  • Fryer or deep fryer pan
  • Aluminum foil
  • Food Scissors
  • Food Tongs
  • Metal tray
  • 2 Mixing bowls
  • Ice cream scoop

Toppings

  • Chocolate syrup
  • Honey
  • Carmel syrup
  • Whipped cream
  • Cherries

Step one

This is usually something that can't be prepared in its entirely right before a meal. It's best to start the process in the morning. The first thing you have to do is make your ice cream balls. I typically make them about tennis ball size. Very important try to do this when the ice cream is hard. Consider placing your ice cream in the coldest part of the freezer. I have a deep freeze freezer in my garage so that's where I store my ice cream.

Once the ice cream balls are formed wrap them in aluminum foil and place on a metal tray. Stick them in the freezer for no less than an hour. I made four of them and they were freezed for about 4 hours, I had other things to do plus I want them rock hard.

Step 2

Alright it's time to coat our ice cream balls. First you want to roll them in the egg whites, make sure there is layer all the way around them. Second you will roll them in the corn flakes. I smashed the corn flakes up a little bit, you don't want too big of pieces. I used honey flavored corn flakes. Roll in cornflakes until you see no ice cream. The last thing will be to wrap them up in aluminum foil and place them on metal sheet again. I recommend a good 2 hours of freezer time as a minimum. Mine sat over night in the freezer.

Step 3

Time to make some tasty crispy cinnamon & sugar tortilla chips. Pour the oil in your fryer or fryer pot. You only need enough to fully submerge the ice cream balls we will fry later. I had the stove top heat set at medium for about 5 minutes. Temperature should be around 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
To get the shape of the chips cut the tortilla in half. Once that is done cut each half into four triangles. I use four triangles per serving.

Drop cut triangle tortillas into oil. Use tongs to flip them. It doesn't take long for them to cook maybe 2 minutes. They will be a golden brown when their finished. The last thing to do is sprinkle both sides with cinnamon and sugar. Oh these will go good with the fried ice cream.

Step 4

Now its time to fry the ice cream balls. I almost over filled the pan with oil. As I lowered it into the hot oil with tongs it was close to over flowing the pot. I would not recommend letting go with the tongs. You only fry the balls up to 15 seconds. I did for 10 seconds did a good look at it than submerged it for another 5 seconds. Ball was still hard and flakes on the outside were hot.

Step 5

Time to dress this fried ice cream ball with some tastiness. Once placed in dish drizzle it with some honey. Yes I know the corn flakes are honey flavored but what's a little more honey going to hurt. After all we are on Hive so I can't go lightly with it. Next up drizzle some chocolate and carmel syrup on top (optional). Than comes positioning the chips on the corners. Almost there, spray some whip cream over the top and drizzle once again with chocolate and carmel syrup. Its ok if some gets in the chips. Lastly we top it off with cherry.

It's best to serve one at a time. The heat from the fried flakes will deflate the whip cream after a minute or two. The ice cream ball was warm and crunchy on the outside and cold on the inside. This was my afternoon snack. Oh this hit the spot and there was no more sweets the rest of the day for me.

So what are your thoughts? Are you thinking of making this or going to find somewhere that serves it? Do you have a special ice cream creation you want to share? Well Let's see it!!

This is unexpected.. so you actually know how to make ice cream hehe

Yes and IMO homemade ice cream is much better than store bought varieties.

Looking yummy 😋

It truly is and thanks for checking the community out 😊

My husband and I used to go to a place that had wonderful fried ice cream. They are no longer in business, and we haven't found another one that tasted as good.

I do thank you for the instructions, though, because we may decide to give it a try.

It's good and you can substitute the corn flakes for other things. I've made it with vanilla wafers and graham crackers. Just got to put them in bag and smash them up to almost dust. Also about any cereal will work, one time I rolled them in cocoa rice crispies.

Wow, this is incredible, hehe. I can see you used cornflakes, that's really cool.

The process is not so hard but I'm not sure I'd be trying it out any time soon, but thank you so much for sharing this with us 🥰

Thank you for checking it out and your welcome :) the outer shell can be a lot of things. I've done vanilla wafers, graham crackers, and numerous other kinds of cereal.

Mmm yummy... and original, didn't see this recipe before 😉

It's a staple for me. Nothing beats a warm crunchy ice cream ball 😋

Mmm I like dark chocolate with (not little) pieces of dark chocolate, sometimes I'm too simple jajajaaja but there are other many, and Italian ice creams (so dangerous when I was there jajaja).
