Advent - Time for Beer and Lego (Days 1 to 3)

in BEERlast year

It's advent time - that's right 24 days until Christmas. Now I'm not religious, but advent is a great time of year - over the last 5 or so years we have partaken in Advent beer calendars, and for the last three or so Canvent.

Canvent is a collection of mainly Australian Craft beers, all brewed as one off batch - it is organised by a bottleshop in Melbourne called Carwyn Cellar. It's simple each day you open a little door of the 2 boxes (12 in each), pull out a beer and enjoy.

This year we are combining this will what may become our new Christmas tradition - building the Home Alone House. This was a set released by Lego back in 2021 and is a lazy 3955 pieces. My partner choose it as her Christmas Present last year, and she built it last year just after Christmas. But here's the thing, it is designed to be built as a advent build (as Home Alone is sort of a Christmas movie) - there are 24 'bags' of pieces so when I finally took it apart I 'unbuilt' in the sense that I reversed the steps and put everything back in it's numbered bags.

Also as a extra treat we purchased some lights for it so we can add a super Christmassy vibe.

So there we go each day for advent we are going to sit down, have a beer and build some Lego, so let's go on a journey.

Day 1

The Beer from a brewery in the blue mountains outside of Sydney - the brewery is Mountain Culture and the beer is called Ice NEIPA

It Smells amazing of big juicy hops, there is definite haze in the look the body is thick and all in all an amazing start to Canvent - 4 (out of 5)

For the Lego we are building the Wet Bandits' van, it kinda satifying to get something actually finished in the build so early.

Day 2

The Beer from a Melbourne brewery Wolf of the Willow and is called acidulus Sour DIPA with wax flower (because that's a thing apprently)

Just and outstanding beer, perfectly sour, strong body wonderfully refreshing 4.25

As for the Lego, well we worked out it made more sense to take picture of tomorrow's beer with what we built today otherwise you are going to get either two shots a day or a picture of beer next to a pile of Lego bricks each day which will be boring so...onto day three to see this

Day 3

The Beer from Sydney brewery White bay which this time last week I'd never heard off but I had a couple of their brews last week - this one is a classic style - A Doppelbock.

And it's True to style, maybe a little hollow given it’s ABV of 8 and a bit percent, but the toffee tones are good enough for me. 3.75

As for the Lego, well we has started on the house - almost none of this will end up being seen, this is all of the inside supports, as you can see there are a couple of gears and axels going through it and some handles and alike, this allows for the spinning Michael Jordan cutout and mannequins from the movie - it'll make sense in about 7 days time.

So there we go we are off to a flying start with three good beers and a base for the house. I'll update you all on progress every three or four days - I'll swap between the Beer community and Lego community as well.
