The Juggle Is Real: Running a Small Biz While Working from Home

Adulting hits harder once you reached the point when responsibilities are having a weight on your shoulders. There comes the bills, the savings, and pursuing something for yourself. Once you acknowledged them all as an adult, life could get tough.

Recently, I decided to make a bold move into leaving my corporate job. If some of you doesn't know, I worked as a plant accountant for a private company. Though the compensation was good, I found the workplace unhealthy for me anymore. And so, I resigned and chose to pursue working from home again.

I got another great idea in mind that I wanted to try - having a small business at home. I asked my partner to make a table made from bamboo because I will be using it in front of our house. He made the perfect table for my small business, and I prepared a small capital for it. At first, I only have 1,000 Pesos ($20) to start my small business of selling barbecue. And I saved all the profits from it, until I started adding more products to sell.

I started selling fruits and vegetables too. Our family runs a business in the public market, so my direct supplier is my mom. She makes sure that I have something new to sell every time.

Currently, I am selling tomatoes, onions, garlics, and salted egg. And everything is doing great. Aside from that, I did not stop from selling barbecue. In the first week, I did not have much customers yet. But as of today, I can say that I am earning a decent amount daily due to the increased number of customers buying. I am planning to add something more, like selling drinks and other snacks. Hopefully, we can make it happen.

And of course, even though I am already running a small business, I did not forget to still pursue my career in content writing. I currently have an active client for fixed contract, and I am still discussing another hourly contract. I am still negotiating with this prospect client since he is requiring a 40 hours per week limit. I am offering him a 30 hours per week instead. Hopefully, we can meet in between and agree to the terms.

Some people ask me how do I do it, how I manage my time, and why I am so eager to strive both in business and working from home. And I just tell them that once you become an adult, your mindset will change and that you will want to be more responsible in everything.
