It was a week since I introduced to you guys about our game development and our final examination about that. How I made my game proposal and how it went by it!
For this I will show you the process of making the game itself, including the designing, programming, what we used and also the actual interface of my game. After the discussion about the proposal and also its comments I listened on what my instructor said about my game. A lot of brainstorming happened during this month, revisions and improvements of my entire game.
My game is about the History of the Philippines, but I made it customized only for the historical places and our national heroes. I added a lot of features on this game, I added a puzzle because I get what my instructor's comment because it was a quiz game so that it will be a fast game and easy to finish. I added a rotation puzzle so that before they answer the quiz question, they have to solve the puzzle first, the puzzle is connected to the quiz answer so that they have already a hint on what will be the following question is.
On this I will show you on how the assets are made or if you are not a techy person, I am telling that this is how I made the designs of my game, including buttons, backgrounds and also the music. My instructor always loves when it comes to your brain or should I say that he loves uniqueness, he told us that the asses should be made by us, and it is original. So, I search and search what an asset looks like and made a draft about what should my buttons or clickers would look like. My plan was the assets should be a friendly one and it catches the eyes of the users by making it a joyful and a lot of colors I picked the color yellow and orange because these colors represents joy and it came to my mind that even though it does not make sense a lot of fast-food restaurants uses yellow or red color I searched and conclude that why they use that colors is because it catches the customer interest because it is bright colors. Move forward, I used adobe photoshop to create my assets, backgrounds and my logo of the game. My characters Tasyo and Juan are also included I added a jeep to make it more a Filipino theme, I animated them using adobe also I enjoyed animating them because for me I gave them a life, you can see them talk and wave to you especially the jeep it looks like it is moving around the world making it a look like a traveling but only in the Philippines. I liked what I created on the assets, and it satisfy also my groupmates so that we moved on the making the game itself.
Creating the game. Our instructor told us a hint on what software we will use to make the game even though I already searched on what is the most common software to make a game, he told us to use the unity. I know that he will told us about that therefore I already started creating my game even though we dont have enough knowledge on the programming because the programming language that we will use will be c# and we dont even have a subject on that even on our first year so that this will be the first time we will use this programming language and this unity software actually all of these we are experiencing are our first time, sorry! haha. Our instructor gave us a month to prepare, learn the programming and the unity itself to build our game. It was good because we faced another challenges also we have another pending activity from him haha. We struggle a lot on learning the programming language first it is hard because we dont even have a basic introduction on that also we dont even know what are the function codes for it, 2 weeks we study the programming language in 2 weeks before we move to the unity. Unity is a software application that helps you build your desire game either it is a 2D or 3D also it can export it through phone, web and even on desktop it is the most common used software to make games. Before we finished studying the language we are also watching some beginner guide videos of unity on youtube, I searched about on making a quiz game on unity and it shows but I am not satisfied about the game and design itself, so that I made a plan and the flowchart of the game because it will make it more easy because when we know the flow we can execute the game.
Making the actual game, First is we have to know the resolution of our game I choose 1920 by 1080 to make it more HD especially on the phone by the way I choosed 2D mobile so that they can play the game using their phone because it is the easiest platoform and they can access it easily. Making the loading page of the game was easy because youtube have a lot of video tutorials now we have to rely on watching and watching more tutorial videos because our instructor did not want to help us and said that we can find a way to make it and he is right we did. Making the loading page was easy, it consist of a button that if you tap it will lead you to the home page of our game. Our home page includes the 'play' 'instructions' 'settings' and 'exit' buttons it was also easy because it is just a scene. Also including the instructions I had fun creating the instruction scenes because it turned out pretty well for me. The difficulty we will face will be making the main game. Before going to the main game you will have to choose the game selection 'easy' medium' and 'hard'.
The puzzle game was so hard to do because we have to slice the picture into boxes one by one. Imagine the difficulty of slicing an image to 16-24 boxes but it is a nice added features because the players will have an interaction with the game not only answering the questions and next on the questions.
The easy level and medium level contains historical places on the Philippines whether it was on Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. We chose the easy and recognizable images that a children are familiar and can answer it correctly. We include the Rizal park, Bonifacio Monument, National Museum and many more. On the hard level we chose to make the puzzle about our Philippine national heroes like Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio we chose them because we knew that they already teach them on elementary.
Following up the question we constructed it easily and more understandle we imagined ourselves as a kid and think on how we will answer the question. Also our groupmate had sibling who is a kid, we make him play the game and he passed he solve the puzzle fast and understand the question and answer it correctly. We also have a feature of star system after you answer the quiz question a star will appear after it. Choosing the correct answer will grant you a 3 star, choosing the wrong will subract it by 1.
Presentation's coming to fast and we had a lot of bug on the game I am still cleaning the entire game so that when we present it our instructor will be amaze on how good we turn out even though he did not teach anything about it.
The presentation day, I was amazed that a lot of my classmate especially the leader including me dont have enough sleep some have sleep but it was only 1-2 hours of sleep haha it because of the pressure for our final examination. A lot of group also have bugs on their game, it was not clean enough and also we have to prepare a powerpoint presentation for our game, I assigned my groupmate to be the one who make the powerpoint because I was 11hrs awake on that day and I can't even think straight because of the lackness of sleep on me. Our instructor called us and make us picked the a paper, the longer the paper the longer you will wait to present vice versa for the short paper. Luckily I chose the longest and for that we have time to clean the game. Fastforward it was our group to present, I presented the game and played a short video gameplay for the entire game. After that our instructor commend us that it was a very good concept and also noticed the quality of our design. It was original by the way we used our 3 days on making the design itself. He even asked us if we installed the game through our phone I honestly said that there was an error according to the resoulution of our phone because our phones are only 720p and the game is 1080 he told us that it was okay and he enjoyed the game. Hopefully he will give us enough grade and a passed one because we made a functional game like what he said and also I will repeat he did not teach any of these including the language and the software application we self study it for a month and for us we are so proud on what we achieve on that they, we surpassed our limits and make the impossible
possible!
Here is the video gameplay of our game. Here is the link guys you can watch it here!
