Good day, Hive friends! 🤗

Ever feel that amazing relief when a year of hard work pays off? Hehehe That's exactly what happened to me!

Guess what? I just earned my FIRST DEAN'S LIST as a Normalite!😻

Fortunate Twist

Looking back on how I ended up at this school, it wasn't exactly my choice. I dreamed of studying in the city, but unfortunately, it didn't happen because my family was too worried about sending me there. It hurt, but I completely understand, especially being the youngest girl in the family. It was tough for me to realize that my options were limited, especially after aiming to be the top student in high school to study at city universities and get scholarships.

My parents really wanted me to go to colleges in Bogo City, Cebu, and study Bachelor of Education. But I was more into Accountancy because I loved Math (though not so sure about it now, hahaha lol). To follow my passion for Accountancy, I took the entrance exam at Cebu Normal University-Medellin Campus without informing my family. Unfortunately, the school only offered courses in Tourism and Education major in English and Elementary Education. I ended up taking the exam for BSED-English. A month later, I received the results and passed the examination and interview.😸

My family's eyebrows definitely shot up when they found out I'd taken the entrance exam for Cebu Normal University-Medellin (CNU-M). They wondered why I hadn't applied elsewhere, but I reassured them I'd heard amazing things about their teacher education program. Luckily, it was the only school I applied to, and even better, tuition-free! A little surprised at first, my family ultimately supported my decision, and that's how my adventure as a Normalite (the term for students at Cebu Normal University-Medellin Campus) began.

Normalite journey begin

The academic year began during the pandemic era, where we were virtually oriented. We had a specific schedule: two days for synchronous classes and two days for asynchronous learning. It was particularly challenging for me as I didn't have a laptop; I had to rely on an old, malfunctioning phone. Researching and completing tasks was a struggle, especially with strict restrictions due to the virus. However, I managed to find a way.

Starting my first year of college was a mix of excitement, nerves, and pressure. I was delighted because I had no regrets enrolling at CNU; however, I was also anxious as I feared not being able to keep up, especially since it wasn't my dream course. The pressure was real, with many stories circulating about the challenges faced by Normalites and the rigorous mental training the school provided. (But enough of that for now; I don't want to spoil the experience for my fellow Hive friends who are yet to start college.) 😂

few photos from when I was a freshman and our classes were still virtual.

As a freshman, I was eager for the academic break, but the pressure to maintain my academic standing weighed heavily on me. I was surrounded by brilliant classmates, and I couldn't help but question my abilities.

Adding to the challenge, I was also serving as the freshmen communication director for the Supreme Student Council that year. Juggling those responsibilities alongside my studies kept me on my toes, but it was a rewarding experience. Doubts and frustrations clouded my mind, but I chose to surrender them to God.

From Freshman to Dean's Lister

Days blurred into weeks, and weeks into months. The academic year felt like a never-ending marathon, but I was determined to cross the finish line strong. With each passing day, I poured my heart and soul into my studies, completely oblivious to how quickly time was actually flying by. Then, bam! The end of the year was suddenly upon me, and with it, a surprise I wouldn't soon forget.

On March 30, 2023, I was met with a wave of shock and emotion as I scanned the list of Dean's Listers. There, amidst the sea of names, was my own. I couldn't believe it! I had made it! I hadn't expected this recognition. When our grades were released, I had avoided calculating my GPA, afraid of the disappointment if I fell short. But God had other plans. He had guided me through the challenges, giving me the strength to persevere.

And so, here I was, a Dean's Lister for the academic year 2021-2022. This achievement was a testament to my faith and perseverance, a reminder that with God by my side, anything is possible.

Reaping the Rewards

As I prepared for the awarding ceremony, I knew I wanted my parents specially my mother to be there by my side. She had always dreamed of becoming a teacher, a dream she couldn't pursue due to circumstances. Seeing me follow in her footsteps was her greatest joy, and I was honored to share this special moment with her.

The ceremony itself was a bittersweet experience. While I was thrilled to receive my award, I couldn't help but feel a tinge of sadness. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only one person was allowed to accompany me. I chose my mother without hesitation.

Here's a happy me with my mom by my side and to my right, you'll see the amazing instructor.

The ceremony concluded, and I was finally holding my Dean's List certificate. My mother beamed with pride, her eyes sparkling with joy.

To celebrate, we enjoyed a warm bowl of lugaw (a savory Filipino rice porridge). It's a simple yet comforting dish, perfectly reflecting our humble beginnings. This light meal felt like the perfect way to end a day filled with such big emotions.

The Journey Continues

And there I am, a giant goofy grin plastered across my face – pure, unadulterated joy!
I know this is just the beginning, the first step on a long and exciting academic journey. But the immense happiness I feel right now is truly priceless. It's a wave of emotion that washes over me, a testament to the unexpectedness of this achievement.

This experience has been an emotional rollercoaster. From the initial anxieties of freshman year to the late-night study sessions fueled by determination, every moment has played a part in this accomplishment. The journey wasn't always easy, but the sweet taste of success makes it all worth it.

As I reflect on this experience, I realize that my journey is far from over. There will be more challenges, more triumphs, and more opportunities to make my family proud. But through it all, I know that I am not alone.

It's shown me that even the smallest wins can be cause for immense celebration. So, here's to new beginnings, to chasing dreams, and to embracing the incredible adventure that lies ahead.

To all the aspiring achievers out there, this is for you. There will be moments of doubt, times when the pressure feels overwhelming. But remember, you are stronger than you think. Embrace the challenges, learn from your mistakes, and never lose sight of your goals. Most importantly, surround yourself with people who believe in you, who will celebrate your victories and support you through your struggles.

PS. City dreams weren't in the cards, but my family (bless them!) had my back. Don't worry, the accountancy dream is still simmering.😉

Thanks for sticking with me! Stay tuned to hear more about my journey as a Normalite! Keep safe and stay hydrated my dear Hivers!😘😍
