ADVANCEMENT OF TECHNOLOGY... MY EXPERIENCE

Greetings to my fellow Hivers! I hope everyone is fine and doing well.

One day my grandson showed me an upload of his video that he made of himself dancing. I asked where did he imitate the dance and he said from TikTok (a social media platform). I was amazed because he was only three years old and he can already make his own video. At first I'm a little bit skeptical and I thought maybe he asked the help of his older brother. But when he showed me how he did the video impromptu then I finally believed that it was him who really did it. The first question that I had in my mind was "How was He able to do it when he doesn't even know how to read?". Then his mother explained to me that he already memorized how and where to search in the cellphone.

I would say that children nowadays are really advanced in using gadgets like cellphones and laptops. And I would say that technology has really advanced.

BEFORE AND PRESENT:

I remember before when I was still studying and we were given assignments for research we have to go the library and search in Encyclopedia for the answer then write the answer in our notebooks. After that we have to use a typewriter to type the researched answer. Unlike today, students would just have to go to google to search the information, copy paste then download for printing. That easy no need to write.

Before the plays that we have as children are tumbang preso or tumbang lata (knock down the can), piko (hopscotch), cards, marbles, patintero (block and catch), kite flying, luksong tinik (jumping over thorns) are just of the popular games that I remember. The plays before needs physical activity unlike nowadays that children just have to use their cellphone to play video games just sitting all day.
That is why the children nowadays lack physical strength due to no exercise. I think millennial kids are no longer aware of the plays that we have before.

In terms of sending out communications before we use letters. We have to go the post office buy stamp for the letter to be sent. Then you have to wait for a week or more for the letter to be received. But if you want the letter to be received at an earlier time then you have to send it as priority mail or registered mail which can be received within 3 days but you have to pay more unlike the standard mail.
Then sending communication was upgraded by using telegrams, which can be delivered same day depending on the location where it is being sent. I remembered the one that became popular that we used which is PT&T ( PHILIPPINE TELEGRAPH AND TELEPHONE CORPORATION ). If it is an urgent message then telegram is the best option.
Landline telephones have been used before but not all households have telephones. I remember that for you to have a telephone at home means you belong to do the well to do family or you have a business.
I remembered also when pagers was introduced where it is being worn on the belt of a person then beeps if there is an incoming message. However to respond to the message from a pager you still have to use the telephone and call the person who messaged you.
Finally the cellphone was introduced which has only a one liner. But it is now more convenient for us because we can call the person or message the person and a response will be received immediately. So the means of communications became more convenient for us.

For work before, we just used a typewriter and record the information manually by writing it in a logbook. Then it will be filed in an envelope or folder by dates and store it in a filing cabinet. So if we are going to search something we have to check the files in a folder manually. Unlike today that computers are being used. All the files would be stored in the computer and you just have to search and click if you want to find some files or information which is more convenient and easy. If you need to send some important documents or files to a certain person or a company you just have to send it by email. Unlike before, you need a courier to send some documents to a certain company or person.

Doing shopping has also improved. Before you have to go to the stores or malls to buy something. But now you can shop online and it will be delivered on your doorstep. Even foods can be delivered still hot on your home.

Our technology has really improved and gone a long way. I never dreamed that I would be able to witness this time when I would be able to talk to a relative or a friend abroad face to face by just using a cellphone and it is free unlike before that we have to pay per hour to be able to talk with someone face to face thru webcam in a computer shop.

For me it now easier to track my children's whereabouts and how they are doing. I can also talk with them everyday as well as my grandchildren not missing them too much because we are able to communicate.

It is also easier to track and search relatives and friends using social media like Facebook. So even without traveling we are able to chat and track each other's lives.

Technology has really improved and gone a long way. I know more improvement will come in the future. I just hope that it will be used in a positive way.

Again I would just like to inform everyone that this is just based on my own experience and understanding on how I see the evolution of technology.
