A Young Entrepreneur's Arrival at Hive: An Introductory Blog

Hi, everyone. Welcome to my first-ever blog post in Hive. I am Julius Abella, a passionate computer science student and thankfully, I am graduating student and survived many challenges since my first year in CvSU-CCAT. I dedicated my four years to learning and making several systems to fulfill my dreams. It was very hard to cope with challenges in my college years because I am a self-support student. I worked in my extra days and most especially, during weekends to earn some money from my aunt’s business. I worked as a rice grinder and my output will be converted into a pancit pasta.

I chose BS in Computer Science as my course at this college because I think this is a course that can get me a job faster. Aside from that, I really like coding and programming because it aligns with my passion. My prefer specialization is web development and game development. These are my favorite subjects and I want to have a job that is part of those teams. But I prefer if I will be a programmer and even though it is hard. I want a challenge and it made me study and improve my skills.

Designing characters is my preference but I do not like it much. I have to search for many references to make a good one. My first-time using Adobe Photoshop, our professor asked us to make a cursive letter from a to z with the use of a pen tool only. My output was so bad and every time I turned the curve, it didn’t follow the way I imagine it would appear on my screen. That is a very challenging day and I had to practice using a pen tool at home. I remember it almost took me several days to perfect a single letter and with the help of a reference in another layer.

One of the things I usually do to enjoy my time was to travel. I had my own motorcycle which was previously owned by my brother but since he was in Japan right now. I am the one who was using it for my daily travel. Having a motorcycle is making my travel fun and less hassle. I saved money because the fares from our house to our university were very high. The duration of time travel, if I estimated it, would be around 1 hour and a half without traffic. You can imagine how hassle it is when there is traffic.

There are several places that I went to with my motorcycle. The longest ride I ever had was when I went to our province in Quezon. It was my birth town and I grew up in Quezon. But due to some circumstances, I moved with my brother here in Cavite. I first settled in Kawit, Cavite and several years later, I moved in Rosario, Cavite where my senior high school alma mater was. It was just a few minutes’ drive from where my aunt's house was located.

When you are driving, the most problematic thing you can encounter was when your tire got flat or something spiky made your tire burst. I experienced it several times when I went to Quezon and finding the nearest vulcanizing shop can consume a lot of time too. I had to wait for at least 30 minutes before it will be fixed and will continue the drive again. Usually, I was with my family but on the last trip I had going to Quezon, I was with my girlfriend. It was her first time visiting Quezon and it made her so nervous to meet my whole clan in Quezon.

At a very young age, I am business minded. I want to grow my finances with some business. Recently, I tried selling doughnuts with the help of my girlfriend. I am thankful to her because she embraced the idea of selling doughnuts and our interests in making our finances grow always in sync. Since I am a self-support student, I think my focus to grow my streams of income intensifies mostly during I am on a tight budget. There are times that I have to work several jobs to sustain my needs and survive the day.

Apart from that, I also started my trading journey when I was in 1st year of college. My first experience was horrible because I was experimenting with how trading works and watching on YouTube helps. Whenever I had losses in trading, I gaslighted myself that it was okay and I could regain back my money next time. But sometimes the case isn’t like that so I kept on losing money. Losing made me learn something and I can say that I trade good right now. Although my money isn’t big, the important thing is what I earned.

In this new journey, I am very excited to make new friends, learn new things that I haven’t known, and widen my perspective in life through writing. It was my first time to showcase my writing because I am not confident enough. But with the help of @dennnmarc, a close friend of mine at this college, he encouraged me to still try to write and have a new experience. His encouragement made me realize that it is worth trying and a friend of mine is also in here already which is @graxaa. That made me more excited!

I will feature and highlight in my blogs my travel journey with my motorcycle. Most of the time, I am accompanied by my girlfriend and it was an awesome experience for both of us. I think I will also share some of my business ideas, game projects, artwork, and web development projects. I can’t wait to share it with you all and again, I am pleased that you read my introduction blog.
