Shaken but Not Broken: How Humanity Shined After the Quake

in Hive PH5 days ago

Hello Hivers, as many of you already know, Cebu City was struck by a strong 6.9 magnitude earthquake six days ago. Our town was among those badly affected by the disaster. Many houses were damaged, and several families, including mine, struggled to get food and other basic needs. During those difficult days, I posted a blog hoping to receive some help through Hive. I decided that whatever HBD I would earn from that post, I would give to my mother so she could add it to the little money we had left and buy food for our family. At that time, we were unsure how we would get through each day, but I held on to hope that kindness still exists even in times of hardship.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who upvoted and supported my post. Because of your help, I was able to hand the money I earned to my mom, and seeing her smile made me realize how a small act of generosity can truly make a big difference. My mother was very happy because it made her buy food and other things we needed for the week. Your simple act of kindness helped us survive those challenging days, and I honestly could not thank you enough. It might not seem like much to others, but for us, it meant another day of comfort and hope. You reminded me that there are still people out there who care, even if they have never met us personally.

After a few days, relief goods finally reached our area. I was so thankful for all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to support the victims of the earthquake. They distributed food, water, and other essentials despite the heat, the long hours, and the dangers around them. Their efforts made a big difference in our community. They never left their fellow Cebuanos behind during this difficult time. Seeing their dedication touched my heart because it showed how strong and united we are as one people. Even though we all experienced the same tragedy, they still chose to extend their hands to those who needed it most.

There are still some parts of our barangay that remain heavily damaged. Sinkholes were discovered in certain areas, making it dangerous for vehicles to pass through. Because of that, only a few trucks or motorcycles can enter, which caused delays in the delivery of relief goods. People living near the highway were able to receive help earlier than those of us who lived deeper inside the barangay. We understood the situation and waited patiently, hoping that our turn would come soon. When the help finally arrived, the relief we felt was indescribable. We were thankful to finally have clean water, rice, and canned goods after days of uncertainty.

Despite the damages and the fear that still lingers after the earthquake, I am grateful for the blessings that continue to come our way. The people who helped us, whether through Hive, donations, or volunteer work, gave us hope to keep moving forward. Even though they were also victims of the disaster, they never hesitated to help others. Their selflessness showed me that compassion can rise even from the ruins. It is truly inspiring to witness how people can still think of others even when they themselves are struggling.

This experience reminded me that above everything else, humanity still exists. In times of crisis, it is easy to lose hope and focus only on our own survival, but this tragedy proved that kindness remains alive in people’s hearts. I will never forget the support and generosity that we received. It gave me strength and faith that our community can rise again no matter how hard life gets. The earthquake may have shaken our homes and our hearts, but it also awakened the spirit of unity and love among us Cebuanos. And for that, I will always be thankful.

Thank you!

You're welcome! Have a nice day ahead!💗

So sorry to hear! I actually have a friend who lives there, who I often help out in the longboarding community. Do you know Mayor Dongkoy?

That's nice, but I don't know him. From what place is he from? 😅

Not sure exactly, but he just hosted a longboard race in Consolacion.
I’ve been trying to help him out through the SkateHive community, but we haven’t been able to find the best way for him to withdraw funds locally. I was hoping maybe you let me know the best way to do so in your country, and then I can help him learn how to do it.
