"Dios es madridista" son las palabras textuales de un periodista español hace unos cuantos años cuando se vivió una de estas epopeyas a las que el Madrid tiene acostumbrado a la gente. No es que lo del sábado haya sido una epopeya porque antes del partido partía claramente como favorito sino que conforme comenzó el partido y este avanzaba el panorama no parecía tan claro como muchos imaginaban. Siempre he dicho, cuando me refiero a los partidos de los blancos, que este equipo tiene un ADN extraño y único, es algo que supongo que viene incluido con la camiseta o el escudo que hace que cuando están sobre la cancha en un partido que tiene la pinta de que va a ser trascendental sean capaces de lograr lo casi imposible.
“God is a madridista” are the words of a Spanish journalist a few years ago when one of these epics to which Madrid has accustomed people lived. It is not that Saturday's game was an epic because before the match they clearly started as favorites, but as the match began and progressed the outlook did not seem as clear as many imagined. I have always said, when I refer to Los Blancos' games, that this team has a strange and unique DNA, something that I suppose comes with the shirt or the crest that makes them capable of achieving the almost impossible when they are on the court in a game that looks like it is going to be transcendental.
Estos partidos que son una pesadilla a nivel de juego pero que de alguna manera terminan resolviendo faltando menos de cinco minutos, son esos precisamente a los que me refiero. Pero el del sábado no fue tan drástico o dramático, es verdad que los goles llegaron faltando 15 minutos, aún así no sentí que haya sido tan espectacular en cuanto a espectáculo. Claro, esto no deja de ser una hazaña considerando como había transcurrido el primer tiempo. Se sabía que los alemanes no serían equipo fácil, desde la primera ronda estaban batallando contra las adversidades y las mismas probabilidades: estar en el grupo de la muerte, dejaron fuera al PSV, Atlético de Madrid y PSG (en los tres partidos no eran favoritos) llegando así a una final a la cual muy posiblemente ni en sus mejores sueños imaginaban estar.

But Saturday's game was not so drastic or dramatic, it's true that the goals came with 15 minutes to go, but I still didn't feel it was that spectacular in terms of spectacle. Como les decía el encuentro del sábado empezó siendo distinto a lo que en los papeles se esperaba, no por parte del Dortmund que salió a hacer su juego de siempre sino por parte del Real Madrid quienes en los primeros 45 minutos no estuvieron sobre el pasto de Wembley. La cantidad de goles que se comieron los dirigidos por Terzic fue descomunal, yo calculo unos 3 bastante claros en los botines o cabeza de Niclas Füllkrug y del alemán Adeyemi. Y es que además de las oportunidades erradas tenemos que hablar de la presión asfixiante que ejercieron contra la salida de los blancos en media cancha al punto que Kroos y Camavinga estuvieron incómodos, Rodrygo no existió en esa primera parte y Vini muy rara vez lograba el desborde/ataque con éxito.

Se acomodaron en cancha, la comodidad los invadió, esa que para ellos es tan familiar en los partidos trascendentales de lo que les hablaba y así lograron el 1-0 para después, en menos de 10 minutos, conseguir el 2-0 definitivo. Carvajal y Vinicius, el primero se convirtió en uno de los pocos en tener 6 Champions en su haber y el segundo encaminó su viaje a ser un firme candidato a llevarse el Balón de Oro, a falta de lo que será la Copa América.

15 Champions se dice fácil pero es que lo del Madrid es una locura, en los últimos 10 años han ganado 6 de ellas ampliando así su dominio en Europa. Otras de las cosas importantes que nos dejó aquel sábado fue la despedida de Toni Kroos. El gran 8 alemán jugó su último partido con los blandos tras anunciar su retiro. En lo personal me puso triste la noticia, creo que a Toni le podía quedar otro año más en lo más alto pero entiendo la decisión de querer irse justo ahora estando en lo más alto y lo más importante, siendo campeón. A pesar de la edad creo que el Madrid no tiene un jugador como él en la plantilla, Valverde quizás es el llamado a ser el heredero de ese 8, de hecho ya el propio Kroos se lo dio. Pero como muchos comentan, para mi el mejor 8 de la historia del Real Madrid es Toni Kroos.

Personally I was saddened by the news, I think Toni could have one more year at the top but I understand the decision of wanting to leave right now being at the top and most importantly, being champion. Despite the age I think that Madrid does not have a player like him in the squad, Valverde maybe is the one called to be the heir of that 8, in fact already Kroos himself gave it to him. But as many comment, for me the best 8 in the history of Real Madrid is Toni Kroos.
En fin, otra temporada más en donde el dominio blanco salió a la luz, jugando mejor o peor siempre consiguen avanzar de formas muy inexplicables algunas veces. Ancelotti sigue acrecentando su leyenda quien junto a Guardiola se ubican en el olimpo actual de entrenadores. Habrá que ver que depara el futuro pero la llegada de Mbappe es inminente y asegurada, ¿será un mejor equipo con el francés en su 11? - si ya cuesta ganarles, ¿serán invencibles ahora?, ¿llegará la 16? - no lo sabemos, lo que si podemos aseverar es la premisa del título: Dios pareciera que de verdad tiene la camisa blanca puesta.
