Everybody Wants to Make It, But Few Want to Learn

There is one thing I have noticed across different online platforms, especially Hive, many people want to be successful quickly. Many want to trend, earn rewards, gain followers, and be noticed. Very few will slow down and learn how the platform works before they expect those results. I am not saying this because i know it all, I'm just sharing what i have experienced over the years.

I have helped onboard several people to Hive over the years. I have taken time to create simple video tutorials to help onboard them, to simply explain how Hive works, how to write your first post, how to engage with the community, and what part curation plays in that. They are not long or complicated videos. They are clear, easy to understand videos and based on what has helped me and others to grow.

Each time I onboard someone to Hive, I send the videos first. I could only hope that they will take a few minutes to learn the basics, before diving in. What happens most of the time? After a day or two, they DM me back asking the same questions I just covered in the video. Like "How do I make my first post?" "What are Upvotes?" or "Why didn't I get any rewards?" It's not that I don't mind answering their questions, I actually love to help.

But, it shows a mindset that wants to skip the learning and go right to the reward. Many of them opened up and saw the trending page, got stoked by the significantly larger rewards others received, and assumed they could just post once and make bank. But when that doesn't happen, disappointment sets in. Some of them stop engaging all together. This is not only a Hive problem, I have seen this with TikTok too, when people want to go viral without learning what makes content "hit" with people.

When I started using TikTok, I did not just post right away, I studied the platform, learned what type of content performs well, how people engage with others, and when the algorithm was favorable to posting, it works entirely. Even now, I am still learning, but that type of mindset has kept me consistent. The reality is, many want the results, but they don't want the process. They want the fruit, but they don't want to plant the tree.

On Hive, your visibility, ability to receive support, and growth all come down to understanding the values and culture of the platform. The curators, communities, and consistently using the platform each play a role. And only when we learn these things can we really start to grow meaningfully.

So, I am still growing, still figuring it out, just like so many others. But if there is one thing I have come to believe it's this learning first will give you staying power. It will help you stay where others fade away. And ultimately, those that grow deep will grow strong. So it's about learning small small each day, it's not just a one day endeavour or kind of work.

Sort:

No one grows without learning, just like a deed would not grow unless is planted but just like you said, only few want to learn

Yea and that's true, it's easy to get excited about anything that rewards but learning is always the first step.

Sure, learning come before earning

I once introduced a friend to hive, since he claims to be a writer he felt like he did not need to learn anything, all he needed was his writing skill, he did not last on the platform. Sometimes we need to slow down, take a breath and learn as that's the only way we ensure growth.

You have said it rightly, we need to learn and not just rush. The blockchain experience be very exciting when you begin to explore but then there are several complexities that need time and attention to overcome. it doesn't happen overnight and the same goes with other platforms.
