Hive Talks: Beyond Blogging (Part 1) | from a crypto noob's perspective

It finally happened!

I finally joined the virtual talk everyone (including myself) was hyping about in the community last October 28 after work, and this time I joined the conversation in a workable, non-glitchy gadget compared to my last attempt in joining, and finally got to see the faces of other people behind the Hive blogs I have been following.

Prior the event, I had some expectations of my own. I never got around adjusting to virtual meets, even at work. In most virtual meets, I get slightly stressed on how the people I talk to are so far away, so conscious or uptight, doing their best to look professional that's why I almost always turn my camera off for being too conscious 😂.

That's why, I was kind of surprised how engaging everyone was and so open about the things they know, or don't know, their concerns. I forgot about my worries and joined in the fun, even though earlier than that, I was wrapping myself in a blanket since I wanted to feel comfy for a while after a tiring day at work.

I give my kudos to the organizers (@indayclara, @glecerioberto and of course, @ybanezkim26) and speakers (@thegaillery, @themanualbot, and @anneporter) because they really did a good job of creating a healthy conducive space for everyone to engage and learn. Everyone was motivated to participate especially during game time and the Q & A portions. I learned so many insights during the talks especially when it came to the blockchain, crypto trading, and NFTs, things of which I am admittingly still a noob at (but at least a noob who scratched a bit off the surface 😂).

So, what did you learn, Roxanne?

I learned quite a lot from the talks like:

  1. The origins of cryptocurrency, as in, what it is and where did it come from, and how it works
  2. The advantages of cryptocurrency and crypto trading. I've already experienced the small fees and how the uninvolvement of the government help keeps it that way, but it was elaborated more in the talks
  3. The different working personalities in Hive -- based on the game we played during the talk on guess whose profile it is and the only clue we were given was the logo. It was the first time I ever felt bad about myself for having a slow typing speed 😭
  4. What goes on in the transactions in Hive -- in all honesty, it was kind of like viewing the gears and working bolts of a machine
  5. huhu how to trade crypto 😭 I need more of these in my crypto trading life
  6. And on the potential of NFTs -- maybe the artistic side of me will be my future salvation after all 😭

and these do not even begin to cover everything.

What can I recommend?

The talk pretty much covered all of the typical criteria:
The topics were so timely and relevant. ☑️
The hosts and speakers were really fun and engaging. ☑️
The participants really showed a lot of contagious energy. ☑️

I guess I could say something about the time the event was held? I certainly would have preferred it more if it was over the weekend and during the day so I could have way more energy to be fully engaged with the talk and probably gain a faster reaction time for the games 😂.

It would also be nice if the games were more personified like participant bingo...

though I don't know how that will work in an online platform 🤔.

To all of you guys who attended, nice to meet you!
