Diy: Mini flower basket made with foami. [ENG+ESP]

There are occasions in which the simple is more beautiful and, if it is on a small scale, even more so. Following the above ideology, I came up with the idea of creating a small desktop ornament in the shape of a flower basket. As such, it is a mini basket, since, as you can see below, it fits in the palm of my hand, but that does not mean it is not pretty. Or at least that's how I see it.

To make this craft I used different colors of fomi and, with the help of the metal cutting dies, I managed to speed up the process even more. That is why I want to share with you the step by step that brought this creation to life. So let's get started.

Hay ocasiones en las cuales lo sencillo es mas bello y, si es a escala pequeña, aún más. Siguiendo la ideología anterior, fue que se me ocurrió la idea de crear un pequeño adorno para escritorio, el cual tiene forma de cesta de flores. Como tal, es una mini cesta, ya que, como podrán ver a continuación, cabe en la palma de mi mano, pero no por eso deja de ser bonita. O al menos así la veo yo.

Para la elaboración de esta manualidad utilicé fomi de distintos colores y, ayudándome de los troqueles metálicos de corte, logré acelerar aún más el proceso. Es por ello que quiero compartir con ustedes el paso a paso que dio vida a esta creación. Así que comencemos.

Step by step // Paso a paso

1️⃣ I will start by marking on the back of a sheet of frosted green fomi two lines, which indicate the areas to be cut. Once cut, I will glue the green fomi sheets lengthwise and then make small cuts on one of its edges using a scissors.

Empezaré marcando en el reverso de una lámina de fomi verde escarchado dos líneas, las cuales indican las zonas a cortar. Una vez cortado, pegaré a lo largo las láminas de fomi verde para luego hacerle pequeños cortes en uno de sus bordes utilizando una tijera.

2️⃣ To create the base structure of the basket, I will wrap the trimmed edge sheet around it and roll it into a spiral shape. Once glued, it will be in the shape of a bush.

Para crear la estructura base de la cesta, envolveré la lámina del borde recortado enrollándola en forma de espiral. Una vez pegada, quedará con forma de arbusto.

3️⃣ Around the base I will glue a gold frosted fomi ribbon, which will serve as a cover for the bush. On top of the gold border and on the upper part I will glue a white fomi embroidery, which I cut out using the metal cutting die.

Alrededor de la base pegaré una cinta de fomi escarchado dorado, la cual me servirá como cubierta del arbusto. En cima del borde dorado y en la parte superior pegaré un bordado de fomi blanco, el cual recorté utilizando el troquel metálico de corte.

4️⃣ If you notice below, I will cut out another white embroidery, but this one will be longer and, although it may seem strange, I will not use the embroidery itself, but rather the rest of the fomi that remains when I remove the pattern. With these scraps glued one in front of the other, I will create a gold and white ribbon, which I will glue on top of the basket forming the handle.

Si se fijan a continuación, recortaré otro bordado blanco, pero este será más largo y, aunque parezca raro, no utilizaré el bordado en sí, sino más bien el resto de fomi que queda al retirar el patrón. Con estos restos pegados uno en frente del otro, crearé una cinta dorada y blanca, la cual pegaré encima de la cesta formando el asa.

5️⃣ Inside the basket I will place flowers of different colors, which I will cut out using metal flower-shaped dies. The central flower will be red and will have a golden pistil in the center. The other flowers will be pink, fuchsia and blue, but these will have white lines emerging from their center. I will thermoform each of the flowers to give them volume and relief.

En el interior de la cesta ubicaré flores de distintos colores, las cuales recortaré utilizando troqueles metálicos con forma de flores. La flor central será de color rojo y tendrá un pistilo dorado en el centro. Las demás flores serán rosadas, fucsias y azules, pero estas tendrán líneas blancas que surgen desde su centro. A cada una de las flores las termoformaré para darle volumen y relieve.

6️⃣ Finally, you will glue the five flowers, starting with the red one in the center and the others around it. After checking that everything is correctly glued, I will conclude the creative process.

Para finalizar, pegarás las cinco flores, empezando por la roja en el centro y las demás a su alrededor. Luego de revisar que todo esté correctamente pegado, concluiré con el proceso creativo.

As I mentioned at the beginning, this craft is very easy to make and takes very little time, which is reflected in its small number of steps. But that doesn't stop it from being fun to create.
