DIY with Dad - passing on core skills through at-home apprenticeship

in DIYHublast year

I have 2 sons and a daughter. I don't really see any reason not to teach my daughter how to use hand tools, power tools and how to wire up electrical plugs. Maybe we will even get to electrical circuits!

I am busy building the second layer of my shelves in the workshop and so I need to sand a bunch of wooden pallet sections.

@aimeludick was invited to first come observe, and then to do some of it herself.

But safety first! First step is to put Safety Glasses on and then to tie the long hair up. Rolling up the sleeves is also a good idea.

Anything dangling needs to go! You don't want that to get caught in the grinder!

Battery safety, changing discs and ergonomics are discussed and demonstrated and now Aime is helping with the sanding!

Unfortunately, the batteries are old and do not last long, but I use both batteries flat after work and thus each day I do a bit more work.

When I have enough shelves for all my stuff in the garage/workshop then I will be able to do more interesting things!

The rest of this is just a camera roll of Aime working in various stages.

The garden behind her is looking good! It was good weather out and if I can help it, I do my sanding outside because it makes a lot of dust!

Aime really enjoyed helping me and I think I will do a lot more teaching and training in the coming months. Meren is only 2 years younger so soon I will have to teach him as well.

What will happen when all three of them are little DIY carpenters, gardeners and the like? I could get a lot done! 🤣🤣🤣

Thank you for reading!

Cheers!

Great work showing how to use the Angle Grinder and very important to use safety equipment.
