Curator Cat: Smudge is Feeling Better, Yay!

Greetings Fabulous Felines and Hoomans of Hivelandia and surrounding communities!

I hope you have had a good and relaxing weekend!

Smudge, on her fuzzy blanket

As regular visitors might remember, we have been quite worried about my very fuzzy housemate Smudge, who recently had her 19th birthday.

She seemed to have lost interest in eating much, and hardly was using the litter box... but did not seem to be in pain.

The Hoomans have had old cats before and felt that perhaps Smudge had simply arrived at the end of her life. She was moved to the warmth of the laundry room with her favorite blankets and bed, and had bone broth and chicken baby food to eat...

Then, a couple of mornings ago, she passed an enormous hair-matted poop... and immediately seemed happier, even though the Hoomans had to clean and bathe her nether regions. Such indignity... but she was rather stinky!

We think the hairball - which normally would come out at "the other end" - likely ended causing a partial intestinal blockage... until the change of food perhaps helped dislodge it.

Anyway, Smudge is back to eating and drinking and using the litter box normally, and seems like her usual talkative self!

We're still keeping a close eye on her, of course, but she's back to roaming the house freely... and she now gets a "high fiber" dry cat food aside from her canned food, which should help prevent any repeat performances!

Thanks to all of you who sent good wishes, prayers and healing thoughts!

Smudge IS very old, but we love her very much, and hopefully she still has a few good years with us!

Stormy Weather!

It has been very stormy and cold today, so I have just been trying to stay warm in my bed!

Then — just after dark — the electricity suddenly went out, after a particularly strong and loud wind gust.

It seems to be something that happens quite a lot in our corner of the world. Thankfully, the Hoomans made a fire in the fireplace, and we all kept warm!

The electricity came back on, after about three hours in the dark.

When I think about the power company workers out there, doing their job under such conditions, it makes me extra glad to be a pampered indoor cat!

And now... back to my naptime!

Thanks for stopping by for a visit, and we hope to see you again!

=^..^=

Love Cats? Get Involved in Hive's Cat Communties!

If you're a cat lover and often/sometimes post pictures or other content that includes your feline friends, why not become an active part of Hive's growing Cat Communities?

These are some of the more active Cat Communities — why not join them ALL? Many of the allow you to share your cat posts, even if you started at a different community!

HiveCats by @curatorcat is a central "gathering place" for cat content on Hive; promoting the use of the #hivecats tag for feline content!

Cat Snaps by @manorvillemike is a place to post pictures of your cats when you don't have a whole lot to say beyond just sharing your cute photos!

Caturday by @saboin is a community where we get to celebrate posts relating to Saturday — aka "Caturday" — our own special day!

Cat Photos by @andrarchy is a "mixed use" cat content community; posts can be just photos or longer, as long as the subject is CATS!

Cats by @captainklaus (and Sissi!) is another "general" cat content community.

There are a number of other feline communities listed on Hive, but I am not sharing them for now as they have not had any activity (by their Admins OR users) since the Steem/Hive fork. Updates as they become available!

Glad to hear that Smudge felt much better and is more cheerful and lively.
Power outage in cold weather was no fun at all. A fireplace is essential, perhaps I have to think of building one in the future if or when the mini ice age hit us with extreme weather!🙀

We were quite worried about her, so it was definitely a relief!

Well, hopefully you will still be in a warm part of the world, but it never hurts to be well prepared!

The weather pattern has changed markedly during the last few years. The winter days got colder and winter started earlier and lasted longer than usual. The mini Ice Age has settled and started a new cycle which lasts about 400 years.

I had a LOT of trouble with hairballs with my new 9 year old cat. I tried the “cat grass” from the store but it didn’t work well. Then I remembered my old cat, back when she used to go outside, used to eat crabgrass. So I dug up a clump and brought it inside. I kept it watered and over a couple weeks the hair ball issue resolved. I’ve replaced the grass a couple times when it stoped growing. He chews on the stems regularly and the system seems to be working well now.

That's interesting... we might have to try that! She was never very interested in the cat grass/oat grass we offered her, so maybe a bit of crabgrass would appeal. Thanks for the suggestion!

Great news! Yay :D
Im glad your hoomans spared us the visuals :P

Yes, it made everyone feel quite relieved! And no, not treating the world to poop pictures...

=^..^=

Yay for poop!

We were very relieved! And happy that she almost immediately seemed to return to her old self.

Good thing it all turned out okay. Can be really tough dealing with that kind of worry... not knowing how things are going to turn out. Hoping for the best but preparing for the big goodbye...

Just happy for you all in the end!
