BDC Contest: "Oliver Twist" My Favorite Childhood Book

in BDCommunity2 years ago (edited)

Oliver Twist was one of my favorite books as a child. If you've read Oliver Twist, you probably have a strong emotional connection to the story. The story is about a young orphan named Oliver who escapes the miserable workhouse and falls into the hands of pickpockets led by the odious Fagin. Ultimately, he finds salvation through the kindness of strangers. This classic story has captured readers' hearts for 150 years, and it's no surprise that kids still enjoy it.

Born in a workhouse, Oliver Twist spends his first years in a cruel group home. His parents were mysterious, and he spent most of his childhood in a wretched orphanage. Oliver is sent to work as an apprentice to a cruel coffin maker when he reaches age nine. Luckily for him, he still retains his innocence and runs away from the workhouse when he is sent to apprentice to an undertaker. Oliver ends up running away, but he does meet a boy named "Artful Dodger," who takes him in as a friend.

Despite the book's grim subject matter, Oliver Twist remains one of my favorite childhood books. Written by English writer Charles Dickens, it depicts child labor and poverty in nineteenth-century London. It continues to motivate readers to fight for the protection of the innocent. A true classic, Oliver Twist should never be forgotten. Just remember to read it aloud every year. You will be glad you did!

Although Oliver spends only a brief time with the crew of Fagin, he inevitably winds up in the house of a kindly old gentleman. He helps Oliver find a permanent home. And he is saved by the kindly old man. So, Oliver Twist is my favorite childhood book, and I recommend it to every young adult! If you're like me, Oliver Twist will become your favorite book. You'll enjoy it immensely. So don't miss out!

Oliver is a poor, illegitimate orphan who was put up with other boys. He is taken in by a wealthy old gentleman, Fagin. While working for the undertaker, he is enraged by the insults he hears. His mistreatment leads to his running away. He meets the Artful Dodger, who introduces him to Fagin, an old man who is the leader of a gang of thieves. Later, he joins Fagin's group. Meanwhile, Oliver becomes involved with his new friend, Nancy.

The full name of the novel is Oliver Twist, and it was published in 1837 as a serial in Bentley's Miscellany magazine. From February 1837 to April 1839, the novel was serialized in Bentley's Miscellany and became a three-volume book. There were 24 steel-engraved plates to accompany the story, so it is easy to see why Oliver Twist has become a favorite amongst kids today.

Ooh, I enjoyed Oliver Twist as well! It’s my favourite Charles Dickens’ book — at least of all I’ve read.

I had so much pity for Oliver. He went through a lot. But anyways, he had a happy ending.

I never read Oliver twist maybe I was too focused on reading the happily ever after 🤣. Lovely choice of book though, even if I'm all grown I can still go look it up and read

I didn't read the book but in my childhood there was a TV series about it. At present I don't remember much about the story but I do remember the images, but I really liked your review and it made me go back to those years when I could see the series on the small screen. 😉
