BDC CONTEST - Percy Jackson Series. Finding True Friends.

in BDCommunity2 years ago (edited)

I don't know how I stumbled upon this contest probably as I was going through my feeds. On stumbling on it, I knew immediately that I had to participate not because of the reward (but if I win, I won't mind though) but the fact that it brought back memories that I will love sharing.

I'm from Nigeria and believe me, we don't practice all these bedtime stories because for one, our parents overwork themselves and if you were opportune to have such, kudos.
As much as I wasn't really exposed to books that much, on seeing this, so many books or stories came to mind. Books like Peter Pan, Pinocchio, and Robin hood amongst others. All these books taught me several lessons as I proceeded or advanced in life. Some taught about always saying the truth, giving, and believing in family among others. As much as I would so love to talk about all these, I have decided to instead talk about what truly gave me passion and made me do research further on Greek mythology.

Going back to my choice of book to review or talk about. Myths in general have always caught my attention due to the fact in my primary school, we were taught tribal myths mostly from the Yoruba tribe here in Nigeria. So after my primary school, a classmate of mine from Secondary School introduced me a book series which increased my likeness for Greek myths.

Check out my Hive ID😎

The book series was written by Rick Riordan and from the first till the last (which I read) gave me vivid knowledge of all Greek gods. The series includes:-

  • Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief
  • Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian
  • Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse
  • Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters
  • Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth

Why I loved This Series and How it Affected Me
The series spoke about a young man who was hidden from the world and himself that he was a demi god. But after an encounter, he was forced to flea from his home and had to find another and he also had to adapt to a new environment and people.

I was immersed in this world as a reader. Even after he recently heard of his identity, he quickly comes to love his fantastical new life and the people attached to it. He met his first friend and maybe something else Annabeth who is never reduced to a damsel-in-distress. She’s admired for her intelligence and strength rather than her looks.

The heroes embark on tasks that were in line with Greeks myths. The author really had a way to make us see the stories as fresh.

The story is highly recommended from my side not just because of its heartwarming story about finding friends who eventually become family, and houses that eventually become homes but that makes us see that we all can be heroes as long as we believe in our course.

I invite @ksam to write about his favorite book from childhood. Please find more information here

I haven't read this series myself, but it is quite popular with the youth readers in the library where I work. Popularity is not proof of quality, of course, but it seems to be standing the test of time so far. It's not as popular as Harry Potter overall, and the Wingfeather Saga is probably the hottest series in our collection at the moment, but one of my D&D players has a character basically ripped out of those books.

Yeah Harry Potter is a legend.
This remains me of my latest post.
Books vs Books. I just watched the movie but I haven’t read the book series completely.

Concerning the other Wingfeather Saga. I haven’t read it yet. But looks promising

Thanks for stopping by boss🙇🙇

The Percy Jackson series is definitely my favorite book series and anytime I see Nigerians that love it, my heart smiles.

I recommend you check out the Kane Chronicles or the Magnus chase books

They are also written by Rick Riordan

Cheers!😁🙌🏻

Lolz I will try but give me a summary on the book🙃🙃

Well think of it like this
If Percy Jackson is about Greek gods
Kane Chronicles is about Egyptian gods

It follows 2 siblings on an adventure as they discover they are the most powerful Egyptian magicians born in a hundred years

Enjoy!😁

Wow that sounds interesting..

Will surely check it out. Thanks for the recommendation
