As you can see, there is no more equality at all. yes i am talking about gender inequality.
It's a global issue obviously needed more global concentration. i am gonna comparing two countries here, as i can't compares all the countries teamwise .
Japan and Bangladesh both of that countries are in different continent with different cultural, political and economic aspects. But one thing is common which is gender inequality in public and private arenas. Recently a report has been published by World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2020, Japan ranks 121st out of 153 countries in terms of gender parity, a decline of 11 places compared to its ranking a year before. Whereas a similar kind of survey done by information technology service Biglobe, more than 70 percent of men and women across the country believed that gender inequality still exists within Japanese society. And here the reason behind this disparity is a cultural or traditional norms, where woman should not be in high position. In the economic and political arena, women are unequally treated. Only 15% of senior and leadership positions are held by women, and income for women in Japan is about half that of men on average. Japan has never had a female head of state, and female representation in parliament is one of the lowest in the world, at just 10%, it is 20% below the average share across advanced economies. So the women have less role in decision making process.
One reason for this economic disparity is that women in Japan spend more than four times as much time as men on unpaid domestic work which means private life.
So comparing this condition with Bangladesh then obviously we can see that though Bangladesh has increasing its economy, standard of life but somehow can’t ensure gender parity. Unlike japan, Bangladesh has its female leadership and honorable prime minister Sheikh Hasina tries her best to establish equal power for women in all arena like Japan. But the ultimate result isn’t that much good. Still now Bangladeshi women are excluded by the man in both domestic and public arenas. Likewise, Japan, Bangladesh has its own traditional believes and norms and religiosity which works as barriers for government for woman empowerment and equality in both domestic and public life. In terms of economic disparity, woman are more encourages to work in unpaid labours. And in the public life we can see that male are in top position rather than woman. For example, in educational sector, woman’s are there but in the administrative level of that institution, woman’s are not there. So the decision makers are male!
And according to the new report from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), prepared in collaboration with the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development, less than 10% of women work in the formal sector with the remainder in the informal sector, such as home-based work. This tends to be characterized by lower income, greater insecurity, and generally unfavourable working conditions. Meanwhile, under 5% of firms have women in top management. Women also continue to have more limited access than men to resources, including land, housing, technology, and even newspapers (15%) or the Internet (28% of users).
In the domestic level, society gives a notion the domestic works are only for female and the decision maker of that family must be male as he earns for family. Even if we see some differences like women are earning but at the same they have to maintain both private life also.
So following that explanation it can be said that both of this country has some issue regarding this gender parity. Though Japan is more advance than Bangladesh whereas people are still illiterate and backdated but now government working on this matters. We hope that, in future the world will be able to establish gender parity in every aspects of life.
