I just watched the NXT Women’s Championship match, and oh my God, was it a spectacle to behold.
Roxanne Perez calls that belt her baby, and she sure as hell clutched onto it tighter than a baby bird tonight.
At first Tatum Paxley and Lyra Valkyria were getting all cuddly, but things went nuts in no time at all. That mushy stuff wasn’t going to work for Lyra; she went after Tatum instead.
Roxanne was wise enough to hang back until it was time for her to intervene. This kind of evening set the tone for the entire match.
I mean come on – from the word go this thing looked like serious business.
Once they got into it, that was pure fireworks. It was okay one-on-one but when all three were involved that’s what made things really interesting.
So Lyra did this crazy power bomb from off the top rope sending both Tatum and Roxanne flying together. Then Roxanne tried nailing Tatum down with some hold but Tatum did not want any of it; she just reversed her assailant smoothly. And oh Lord don’t even get me started on her submissions because they were point blank submissions.
Now let me update you on Tatum. She’s been playing second fiddle to Lyra for a while now, but tonight, she showed she’s got what it takes to stand on her own. She was dominating out there, and for a second, I thought she might actually win. I even called it before the match started – I thought she was gonna take the whole thing.
But of course, Roxanne had other plans. After going for her signature move, Pop Rox, it fell short of intended destination. Before we knew what hit us; Lyra came up with a roundhouse kick that could have easily decapitated Roxanne.
This saw her rolling out the ring with Tatum in control thereafter. She managed to pull off some sick moves — a sunset flip followed by pumphandle cali roll and then 450 splash off the top rope as well as in slow motion.
Just when Tatum appeared to be the winner, Roxanne came in and took it away. One can barely say that she escaped with her title, but the truth is that a win is a win.
On the whole, it was a great match. Though for now Roxanne might be holding on to the championship; I do not consider Tatum completely out of contention. There is nobody who deserves a shot at this as much as she does. Nobody knows what will happen next but one thing is clear – I will absolutely watch it
