Hey, Miss Mind! Where are you?
Do you have to ask your mind sometimes that question? As it probably happens to everyone to catch their mind wandering around, at some other places, with some other people, in completely non-realistic circumstances. Sometimes even going back to the dreams, or some situations that happened in the past but there is no reason to remember them exactly at a certain moment when it is not expected. Our mind doesn't want to keep quiet and it seems that it likes to escape from our control. From the dictator's influence. I mean, I don't know if it happens to everyone, I can't be sure so let's take all this with a grain of salt, ok?
But I think that the mind of my student this morning wanted to escape far away from the situation we found ourselves in. So, it's Saturday morning when this student comes to my home for his private piano lesson. He has been absent for some weeks as he had to go to the other corner of the world, to attend a fair for his business. Before we start to play we like to talk a bit, about how the week went or similar, but now he had indeed a super nice thing to tell me. He visited a huge music store in Hong Kong (that's where he was) full of luxury pianos. The price of them? It is better not even to mention... Guided by his explanation my mind travelled there and just admired the scene. But, it was time to start to work as the hour could disappear quickly.
We have chosen a new piece to study today, a piano piece that became very popular lately. For the first time, we heard this song on a French alternative radio station that many times offers the musical background for our home. Later, we recognized the tune in one advertisement on television and just a few weeks later, another commercial also used the same music. Just the first fragment of it actually. Just a bit of research and we knew the title of the song and the piano version it appeared in all these cases.
It is the song Where is My Mind, by the band Pixies. This song was featured also in a movie watched in our home recently, Fight Club. However, the piano version I am talking about is played by Maxence Cyrin. Here comes his YouTube channel if you want to check out his original piano works and piano covers. We started to read the notes, analyze the chords, practice the jumps and positions and then... THEN my son decided to study the violin.

Do you know that the violin is quite a loud instrument? If you don't know, I am telling you that. You just have to believe me. It was a bit difficult to concentrate on this calm piano piece and in this phase of learning while you hear Bach's Partita in D minor from the other room. I apologised to my student but he said it was fine. But I don't know... In his place, I would let my mind run away, far far away from this house of musicians and all this noise (oops, I mean music). 😁
The lesson finished with positive vibes and the violin practising still continued for some time. When everything got calm, I switched again to the piano and recorded this little song, so simple but with this interesting title, Where is My Mind.
So, back to the questions from the beginning... Do you always know where is your mind, or it sometimes goes where it wants, without your consent? Like a person for herself... Miss Mind.

Music Fair: Tell me more about this one? Was this a big piano show? More musical instruments on display? What is this student of yours doing for a job? I felt a bit like WOW, travelling to cool places as part of the job: I'm getting a bit jealous, though I've done this myself for at about one and a half to two decades up until about a decade ago. Never really missed it, but my mind wandered off to the happy business travel moments that I've experienced. And then my mind caused mister Jealous to act up, though fortunately only a little bit.

The title of this post reminded me of a song that’s on the soundtrack for a video game called Need For Speed Unbound… I was going to share that song with you, but then I found out you were playing that same song on the piano. Great taste in music and also amazing skills on the keys.

Oh, wow, so one another cover of this song and which appeared in the game Need For Speed Unbound. I had no idea this song had so many covers. Actually, I heard first the piano version that became so popular here in Spain, I don't know though for the other countries. I guess the same. :)
Thanks for sharing this version. I still remember the game where you played the piano, well, not the real piano hahahah. There were classical pieces which I wanted to play then too. It was a year ago, I know that I printed out just some scores but never got to do the idea I had. To record those pieces, inspired by your post. The easy pieces I found way too easy for me and the difficult ones... huh, I have never got enough time to learn them :/

Hello @mipiano friend!... I read your post while listening to your interpretation of "Where is My Mind"... Which, by the way, is a relaxing, extended melody, which brought me images of open skies and cool mornings, like when I go to the nearby hills early in the morning to take pictures and breathe fresh air...
As always, your lines are fresh, flowing and charmingly eloquent.... You and your student are lucky that your son invades the atmosphere with his violin and Bach simply!.... My mother gave directed homework for students in our home occasionally.... And I loved listening to Iron Maiden at those times (at extreme volume)!.... I was lucky that my mother never shot me, as she carried a gun until recently when she considered herself too old for it...
I loved what you said about our mind (My mother calls it "The mad woman of the house").... Over the years and after several ups and downs in life, I ended up understanding how boisterous and uncontrolled our mind can be and how it can drag us into complicated situations.... Actually, I always had that perception since I was very young (by chance of life, an edition of the Bhagavad Gita fell into my hands when I was only 6 or 7 years old)... That is a long story, but it was something that marked my way of seeing the subject of the "mind" as such... However, until my 42 years (when I sent many things down the drain and decided to "simplify my life") I had explored relatively little about that of "The mind" as a necessary element to control and keep under custody, in order to raise consciousness... It's a long story, maybe I'll write it and share it on #Hive.... Who knows...

The woman of the house... I try to imagine your mother, the great and strict teacher saying that in Spanish, La Señora de la casa, la señora Mente! Am I close? and you listening to Iron Maiden while your mother was giving homework to students, must be an interesting situation. Loud music + homework = excellent results... or? 😂 Wow, seriously? She carried a gun? Or it is just a metaphor hahaha?
I searched for that book you mentioned, Bhagavad Gita. It didn't fall into my hands so far, so I will just leave it to my guess and imagination about its content and the scene of you reading a Hindu sacred text instead of a picture book other children at that age would read. About your life story and simplifying your life, if you decide to write it I am sure it would be an excellent article.

Ha ha haaa... It's not a metaphor!... My mother's family is from this town (not my father, he came from Caracas and fell in love with my mom and stayed here)... So, My mother's family owned farms, they had some cattle and it was common here to carry a weapon... In fact, I grew up seeing my uncles and cousins carry weapons on a daily basis, my two younger sisters also knew how to shoot weapons (including Angelica (the oldest), continue using the old Smith & Wesson Cal. 38 revolver which my mother carried in her bag until a few years ago... I never used weapons (I'm a "weirdo" in my family, I never liked horses or weapons and at 25 I became a vegetarian and almost killed everyone in my family with a nervous breakdown) but it's a long story... As you say, maybe one of these days I'll write all that... ha ha ha. .. But it's something strange... I confess...
Regarding the Gita... Well, if it is written that you have to read it, surely it will come to you almost by magic... I am sure of that... I remember perfectly how that book came to me... My father came from a trip to the airport and came home grumbling that "some guys with shaved heads and orange clothes made him buy a book"... haaa haaa haaa... Then he threw the Gita on the dining room table, my mother took it and threw it placed on a shelf full of books... Then, during one of my periods of "bronchitis and asthma" (I was sickly as a child) I started reading it... I guess I was lucky... Anyway... That maybe it had to happen...;)

Es una ricura leerte mientras escucho el piano. Es bonito ese tema...y tu mente irá a donde seas capaz de llevarla. A veces es mejor apagarla un rato, no pensar. Eso dicen los Yoguis. Meditación. Hacer que los pensamientos se callen! Amanecí sin café y me hice un té. Un té negro con @mipiano, puede ser hasta el título de una historia.
Un beso. Sí, es ruidoso el 🎻 pero quién domina las teclas blancas y negras sabe también volar, mecida por la música, a través de los mundos. Entonces... El violín deja de ser un problema.

Where is My Mind should be a well known songs in my region so that I can find myself within a sounds that could match to the realistic situation I am now. Whether outdoor or indoor, something happening during the past always pop up whenever I live in a quite environment and the circumstance than I have no clue for what I should talking about. The ways you perform, got me think how smoothly you play and the expert you are. I might not listen to it until the end, but I did not even pause because this is very satisfied.
Our mind is a mystery, it goes sometimes to the past and does things we don't know why :D And thank you for listening to my piano playing, I am glad you found it smooth 😇 . It is the way how I feel and play this song 🎶

Hey, thank you so much for your words, I will take them for my playing 😇 but not for inventing the scores. I just played the piano version that already existed. This piano version is from a guy called Maxence Cyrin, I left a link to his YouTube channel in my post, he has other covers and original pieces too. Though I think I play it a bit slower than he does it, maybe I was too relaxed when recorded hehe or I just have the feeling it has to be like this ;)
I did check him out, but at a Sunday Morning that more relaxed version worked miracles on my mind as i seem to not get the music out of it today

It's soothing for me to watch your fingers as they play, as if they're soothing my Miss. Mind, who oftenly wanders off and doesn't know where, I frequently catch her roaming the corridors of the past, wondering if all the plans have been completed, or sometimes she is riding on the carriages of imagination, somewhere.
No offense, my focus would have drifted to R's violin room. :D
I hope your gospodjica Mind also found the music soothing. Let her go and explore, yes, those paths of imagination are good ones to let her enjoy.

Wow - this piano version sounds quite beautiful and calming... meanwhile the original is actually quite a rocking song! I suppose by now we'd even call it a classic! Am I getting old? In my day it was a staple on the journey to learning how to play guitar, along with "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica and "Wonderwall" by Oasis...
Yes, the original is much more rocky :D But I am very happy that I got to find this piano version and play it. It's calming, quite opposite from the original. Oh, we are all getting old, some of us getting older faster (me 😂)
My minds wanders off too often. Fortunately, it seldom happens while I'm working. When it does, I get a cut.
It goes goes away while I play and that's when I have to repeat the recording once again.

Pd. I know how loud a violin is. I remember the rehearsals at the orchestra. Way too loud and trebly! 🤣
I hope then that you can stay focused every time you work, not to have any cuts ;) But when we play, it's normal it wanders off. I was playing this morning at my usual gig and believe me, I was thinking how my mind is everywhere just not in the reality 😂😂😂

How beautiful this melody sounds when you play it. I have already played the video three times. Played that way, it is a melody that conveys a strong feeling of nostalgia, but at the same time of tranquility; although I'm sure this doesn't make sense. Where is my mind? Everywhere and nowhere.

Sometimes I feel my mind runs faster than myself.. I am thinking A and my mind is going to B....sometimes it seems I have to be the one to run faster to meet up with my mind..and sometimes it seems I have to tell my mind to hold on for me ...its a weird situation to be in.

Sometimes the mind can wonder, it's why we wonder around and about many things, I think it's power and good equals that with which we focus and bring good ideas for life. A wondering mind is not a wandering one, I guess what's not productive is wandering without an aim. When we wonder, it has to be productive yeah.. sometime good distractions can be appreciated to cause the mind to wonder to the answers we really needed.

Haha, this just happened to me, my mind wondered while I was at church teaching our primary kids... Well, because one reason my cat Luna went missing so I was physically present but mentally absent.😍😁
Or usually or at times when I am driving specially on long drives my mind wonders... Haha. But I always make sure it won't go too far or else it would be a disaster.haha
Oh, did your cat in the end appear? I know that feeling, when we are mentally absent. When our mind is at other place, with other people and we see animals too ;)

After four days we found Luna which is so funny because he was caught by our neighbors who just lives right across us but since we don't know each other for they are new tenants so we knew where Luna was from fellow seniors in the neighborhood, you know how the oldies are.... Haha. In the morning that's their exercise. Meeting and talking about many things.😍😍 Good thing their talking had a positive outcome.... We found Luna boy!🥰🥰
