Possible not possible!

IMG_20220905_192603.jpg

When you think you don't really have time for anything else in your daily schedule, and you are already falling apart from the commitments, you would be absolutely crazy to invent for yourself some additional tasks. Nobody would do that.

But, I just did it to myself 😆... to make things more complicated. And complicated is maybe not the right word. Let's see... it is more something like impossible. Possible not possible! {We will know if this thing you will learn about in this post was indeed impossible (or not) by the end of this year.}

Where should I start? Hmm... yes, from my summer break. It was a great one, with some hiccups here and there, but I would gladly live it once again if someone could offer me two and a half months of holidays. I definitely would. Even if I thought my pace for work-related aspects of my life was equivalent to the speed of a turtle.

mipiano_banners_strip_gimp.png

Oh, turtle. There is a short interlude in this story with a turtle thingy. When I park in a new place, a parking lot where there are several floors, I sometimes take a photo of the letter or a sign that will help me later find my car easily. It happened this summer when we were in Italy that I parked in such a new place for me and I took a photo of the sign shown on the column next to where I left my vehicle. It was a turtle, but the funny thing is the word that was written there!!
That special word which is very familiar to me - PIANO.

Does it mean that:

a) the piano resembles a turtle?

b) all the pianists during the summer are slow and lazy as turtles?

c) one - 1 - piano is inferior to a turtle?

IMG_20220811_203706.jpg

Fortunately, I know what piano means in Italian, so I could find later my parked car on the first floor, in the section where the turtles were drawn in the columns. But it indeed made me smile and think about how lazy these piano fingers are. No real practising is involved in their schedule.

mipiano_banners_strip_gimp.png

Back to the matter. Lazy during the summer break vs too busy since work started. Too busy seemed not convincing and I made up a challenge for myself that I will maybe regret. (I already do, but I am also excited at the same time).

I challenged one of my advanced students to learn a piece, both of us, by the end of the year. Not any piece, that I could learn by practising it a few times days as then it would not be a really challenging thing. At my proposal, we agreed to learn the same piano prelude, in G Minor, composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff.

video source

The pianist in this video - not that I have anything in common with Yuja Wang... her talent, fame, look, and perfection are not approachable to us, common mortals. Except that I also (try to) play the piano.

What have I done?
When will I find time to study it?
Nothing will happen if I don't do my part, I am the teacher. The student will not judge me. Maybe he would even forget it hahaha, but it is a challenge for me. Until the end of the year, I will not interpret it at some extra high level, but I will be happy when I can play it decently. Not in a concert hall. Not for the public.

My opponent started with the first page, his fingers are already decoding the notes and keys of the piano. And me? I am here, writing these lines, in the middle of the night thinking about why I made it to myself 😂

Keep calm and learn Rachmaninoff by the end of the year!

I need a new footer! Until then I will try to keep calm and have peace of mind :)

What a splendid piece. Just for you to attempt such a challenge speaks volumes of the level at which you are presently at. I didn't know that anyone could move their fingers so fast and have them land on the right keys. The only person I've ever seen come close to pounding the keys with such speed and precision was my accountant, but the music he played was not as sweet. 😁

As the old saying goes, If you want to get something done, ask a busy person.

Good luck learning this piece and although you may not perform it in public for an audience, I'd love to see your version once you feel you can perform it to some degree.

The only person I've ever seen come close to pounding the keys with such speed and precision was my accountant, but the music he played was not as sweet. 😁

🤣

Your comments are hilarious! 🙌🙌
So funny 👌

That saying makes a lot of sense. Indeed.
A busy person needs to be organized and it makes a good habit. It can be so nicely seen on students too, the lazy ones always complain 🤣 and those who are used to work and have the habit to study always want even more tasks and homework (in our case new compositions as I teach piano).

Huh, the end of the year is approaching, every day I have a day less - and a day more in getting better with my challenge ☺️😇🎶🎶🎶🎶

The neighbors are a bit surprised why I have started to study again 😇
If it will be any good, I will update my progress and maybe even record the Prelude when my deadline arrives. But this is not a promise 😉

Good luck with your music and learning this new piece, keep us posted, PLEASE.

I will 😇
Thank you 🙌

Hahahahaha... I told you! Back to work means, loads of extra mental (and possible also physical) energy to pick up tasks. Sooo much looking fwd to the outcome end of year ;)

Turtle, Piano {lolololololololol}

Yes, it is indeed like that. Work attracts more work :D

Oh, you will be looking forward to the outcome? 😱
I should call Yuja to help me out 😆

Turtle, Piano {lolololololololol}

I LOL'd too when saw the turtle and PIANO 🤣🤣🤣

Yuja? PreSearch gave me not so much clues. Like the tea? Guess its some energy God instead⚡️

Energy God!? maybe indeed it's what I need 🤣

As I really doubt Yuja Wang would find a free slot in her schedule to come to help me with this Rachmaninoff composition ;)

Hahahaha Stupid me! Owww, more precisely, stupid memory 😱

But but but, now we know about the existence of a certain yuja tea :)))

We are on a camping trip with @traisto and we just listened to that piece, under the stars! We both loved it. And I am sure we would love it again if we ever have the chance to listen it by you (and your student) the next year :)

Yay, yes, your camping trip... Enjoy!!!

And thank you, both of you, for stopping by in these circumstances. This girl from the video is fantastic and the composition is also great. Well, well, I am already working on my part too. 😇

Just right now this is what I do:

IMG_20220917_193433.jpg

Piano a piano si va lontano! 😁

Watching the video of pianist Yuja Wang, I see that it's a great challenge you are facing, but I believe that if you put time and dedication you will be able to achieve it, since you're very talented and professional.

Good luck and success! 🤗

Piano a piano si va lontano! 😁

Exactly :))
Though I have to be a bit quicker, the deadline is around the corner.

Yuja is amazing! She has some crazy stuff, how she plays some technically extremely difficult, transcendental pieces is just awesome.

Thank you for your words and wishes Rosana 🍀 Yes, time is what I will need. Somehow. Don't know how 😆

Lol taking pictures of your parking spot to easily identify where your car is parked is smart!

Kinda reminds me of something I used to do. Take pictures when I just enter a room so that I can leave things exactly how I left them to not make my brother notice I was in his room.

Hahaha, that's funny. Taking pictures when entering the room of your brother, to leave everything as it was? LOL 🤣🤣🤣

This Is smart, not my parking thing.

{has he ever noticed you were entering his room?}

Yeah he’s caught me a few times. He’s smarter than me so he does things like spray powder on things he thinks I’ll touch, and look for finger marks when he comes back. CSI-style lol. He’s seen too many movies(just like me). Lmao I just found out recently, and I always thought he had cameras hidden in his room.

Oh, so he is a smart one too? Huh, you didn't have it easy...

🤣

cameras? lol

that's a superior level of security already!!!

Holy Potato! The infamous(way too much chords involved) Prelude in G sharp minor! I love that piece! It's certainly much harder than the more famous C Sharp minor prelude... Good luck my friend!

Hopefully you have an unusual enough hand size or at least, a ridiculously enlarged hand span for this. I'll look forward to your performance by the end of the year!

Reminds me of the time I attempted to learn Chopin Etude Op 10(No. 1, No.8 and 4), in just 3 months and ended up spending nearly THREE YEARS before I could get them to a somewhat satisfactory level.

Yay, the op 10 no 4 was one of my favourites. Though my left hand was dying in some parts 😂 I remember the type of exercises I practised to increase the speed. Never played the no 1, it's more difficult than it seems hahahaha

Thanks for your encouragement, I do study it already, but for sure the tempo is some sleepy lazy turtle tempo 😂

what a beautiful piece of music ... and what a challenge you have set yourself...

butttttttt.... we all know that what mipiano sets herself... she will triumph. so my words to you

go forth and conquer 😀

You see, the connection between the beautiful piece of music and the challenge set to me is strong. It's just the power of attraction that Rachmaninoff's music made to me so I felt I have to learn it. Why not in a form of a challenge? hahaha, silly me 🤣

Ok, I already had three short studying sessions today. Far far far away from any triumph, but I am happy meeting this new composition (parts of it and in a very slow tempo) through my fingers 😍

Wow… what a challenge you have given yourself 🤓😳
Next to everything else.
I’m sure you do find some time to practice it. Still many months to go.
But now our time machine would come in handy… to add more hours 🤣😂🤓 hahaha 🤣
Good luck @mipiano 🤞🏻🍀
Have a wonderful Saturday!

Many months?

Just three and a half :D

A piece like this needs more time to be good 😅
Omg, what I was thinking hahahaa

Our time machine in producing extra hours could come in handy. It would extremely come in handy :D

Have a great Saturday you too, and I am going to start with 🎹 🎶

Yes… if you write them down as just 3,5 months… it seems impossible.
But I think you can do it 🤓😎🤩

It sure would help. Let’s start inventing it and get it built hahaha 🤣

Thanks a lot @mipiano 😊 have fun 🎹🎵🎶

Thanks, already having fun as I started to study it a bit and just love it 💜

The machine... I am not very good in building these technical stuff... A shame hahaha 😂

You are welcome, that’s great to hear 😉🤩

Hhmmm we need more manpower to create it than… 🤓🤔
Hahaha 🤣

Maybe we should just try to make our best with only 24 hours in one day? 😌

Yep, as we are already… maybe for the best, instead of fantasising time travel machines 🤩🤓
Let’s make the most/ best out of every single day!

It's wise to park in a new place and take a photo the front so that you know exactly where you car is. Anyway, I am not really into music and musical instruments, but um, I love listening to piano. It makes my mood calm and excite at the same time.

Well, break a leg to your future endeavors. Thus, I know you are a great teacher for your students so just continue what you have started.

Have some !PIZZA

Piano - indeed can bring both calmness and excitement, it depends on the peace also :)
Thanks for your wish, the end of the year will tell if this was a good idea hahaha

Again, the more I read your posts and stories behind it, the more I fascinate myselff with it. Piano and turtles related and how everything mix it all together is truly poetic and so human at the same time. Well done, @mipiano .

Maybe it is just that a creativity fairy came and mixed all that together in my head :))
Thank you @freakshow90 😇

Definetely!! @mipiano I really hope you see my latest post (un about a few hours) and enjoy It. Best for you, always!

Yes, I saw it already :)
Though I am fighting with Time to get commenting on everyone's posts :D
Btw, one of those comments - the shorter one - came from my husband, as I showed him your post ;)

Very nice post keep doing things pianissimo ;) But it sounds very familiar, I keep coming up with new stuff. While I have trouble fitting the old in next to life and work😁

Maybe I should switch to fortissimo soon :D

So, yeah, we tend to do it. Maybe it is not bad at all, maybe it can give us an additional mental and moral boost to those already existing things 😀

Very true, it often does indeed-

Salute! 😍
You never disappoint me with how amazing you are. And it's such a beautiful piece 💞
How I wish to be like you who's good playing piano. Two instruments I want to learn, piano ang guitar but naahh 😅

It is never too late to start learning an instrument :)
I have adult students that are older than me, but yes, it is challenging as the process is not as easy as when starting to learn it as a child. 🎶

Thank you for the inspiration @mipiano
How I wish there's an instrument lesson here near our place ☺️

I understand about the frustration of adding additional items to an already full list.

Thanks for sharing and good luck trying to keep calm.

Sometimes we just add them to the already busy schedule as we got hyped about a new idea or challenge. Maybe it can work actually :)
Thanks, I will try to keep calm lol 🤣

I really admire you for taking that challenge. That shows you don't settle in your comfort zone and you want to improve ❤️.

I searched what the Piano means in Italian and if I am correct it means soft. I still don't get why soft is written on a parking sign hahaha 😅

Comfort zone - hmm, indeed, I was sitting there for a too long time already.

The Italian word piano has several meanings. Yes, it can be soft, or slowly, gently, when we play music for example. But also it means floor.

So the sign means I parked on the first floor ;)

Speaking of the piano. Does your name come from the piano? 😅 I sometimes say I have no time for this and that, yet, have a lot of time online. Lol. A bad habit.

My username? Mipiano? Yes, sure, as I play the piano :))

Well, a lot of my time is spent online, and it is included in the part of commitments 🙃

You will get there @mipiano !:) can't wait to hear your rendition of Rachmaninoff at the end of this year!
Haha yes, piano means floor in Italian - the word holds a strong meaning with you!:) Wow, Yuja Wang is an incredible Pianist - and so are you! :)

Thank you @sunsethunter, for your encouragement!

We will see, we will see... if I will get there :D
Studying started, yesterday with more results and today I was not that satisfied with my working pace, but ok :)

Hi @mipiano 🤗 My son is having a bubble bath right now while I'm reading your post and we're both listening to that piece, we're delighted. It inspired him to hum mhmhmh... and follow the sound of the piano 😊, and it gave me some positive vibes. I'm sure you'll accomplish your challenge, I'd love to hear it! 😊 P.S. I laughed about the parking lot a lot 🤣

How cool that your son likes it and hummed along with the piano sound. I remember from one of your posts that he was interested in piano :)

Hahaah, yeah, the parking lot was the funny part of the post 😁

OMG she's great! 😲😍
Good luck and I hope you succeed in the challenge you have set yourself. 😊
Btw, nice piano! 😅

Yeah, Yuja is great.
Have you seen how she plays Turkish March - in the arrangement by Volodos?

C R A Z Y stuff! Insane!

Amazing 😍
