The adventure of listening to “It All Comes Down To This,” A Certain Ratio’s latest release is so profound.

Being a fan of music with an old school feel and modern touch, this album felt like a gem discovered.

Right from the start, I got the punk-funk vibe that ACR had always been about for me. It amazes me how this band didn’t get as huge back then but went ahead to shape my favorite artists’ like Happy Mondays and LCD Soundsystem. It is like finding roots in something you have known but not yet explored.

Before I proceed, No! I wasn't born in those days. But I kinda have a thing for history, especially when it comes to music.

Anyways, what struck me most about this album was its ability to stay true to where it started, while at the same time embracing new directions. The songs seemed to maintain an urban Manchester vibe but there was something refreshingly new about them.

Perhaps it is the masterly work by Dan Carey🤔, however there is an unmistakable interaction between tune and beat which has a spellbinding effect on listeners.

Music like "It All Comes Down to This" and "Estate Kings" has stories that may make one cry. Jez Kerr’s singing comes out raw over the instruments although Martin Moscrop’s trumpet and Donald Johnson’s drums give depth and layers of texture to this music.

Each song is a window in different time but they all come together to build a single whole sound.

However, it is the narrative that truly touches people about it. On “Estate Kinks” he vividly describes growing up in 1970s Manchester, when Johnson would be using spoken word phonetics which also adds nostalgia to the song.

And ‘Out from Under’ takes me back to those nights spent dancing the night away with its catchy chorus and pulsating beat. This speaks volumes about ACR’s ability to make us feel nostalgic as well as emotional at the same time.

More than just an album, “It All Comes Down to This” is A Certain Ratio’s statement on the eternal nature of its works. Despite not having become household names in their prime, the band’s influence can be experienced in generations to come. That said, with their recent release, they have shown that they are indeed timeless.

Lets pay tribute to A Certain Ratio – for the music, for the memories and however small a reminder of how far true artistry can go when it wants to.

Regardless of your relationship with them, whether you followed them from way back or you are just hearing them for the first time like me, I suggest that you listen to “It All Comes Down To This”.

You will not regret it.

"Out from under" has a certain touch to it, I really felt the beat within. I guess I've got a new song added to my playlist. It gave off that 'funky' vibe.

Greetings!
