RE: "Geisha" - Original Oil Pastel Portrait Painting

Wow that one is incredible. Great detail. It looks super realistic. 👌

You definitely captured elegance and beauty there.

I really liked the movie Memoirs of a Geisha. Not sure if you've seen it but it was a great film. I could have done without the part where the adult man falls in love with a child though, that part I didn’t care for. Other than those parts, good film really.

Thank you. Yes, I've seen the movie and had a brain fart of John Williams' wonderful music score in my head the entire time I was painting this. 🤣 You're right about the child aspect, that's definitely weird, especially the part where they auctioned off the young girls virginity - or was that only in the novel? I read that, too, and get the two mixed up.

Still, it's not prostitution. It's more along the lines of an arranged marriage, as geisha have these patrons for life and the relationship is exclusive, i.e. they're financially secure forever. Statuatory rape of minors nonetheless to our thinking. Oh well...

That part was also in the movie. I imagine that the book was quite good. I haven't read it myself but books tend to be better than movies, generally speaking.

The concept of Geishas is definitely an interesting piece of culture.
