"The Duck"
Alla Prima Oil on Paper (Fabriano Tela)
40cm x 30cm
Life happens, and before you know it, it's September and more than high time for proof of life... It's been a very busy year so far, culminating in Caro and I selling our house in Germany and moving to a lakeside chalet in rural France.
Which brings me to the subject of today's painting: sitting on the porch, watching and feeding the water fowl, I have turned into a bit of a duck whisperer. Even with no bird in sight, I only have to yell "quack, quack, quack" across the lake, and an armada of ducks shows up within 30 seconds. These things really know what side their bread is buttered on!

Danke Andi! 😀
Yes, it's a good painting, but oh my, it's so boring, you could just as well take a photo, with the same result. To keep poking around with resembling a photograph. Consider one thing, that's my opinion. Nevertheless, I want to give you a vote.
No problem, you're entitled to your opinion. (Most of the time,) I like coming as close as possible to the reference photo as it teaches me what works and what doesn't. I'm a firm believer that one has to achieve a good, repeatable likeness first before going into abstraction. (self-taught and still learning) Anyway, thanks for the feedback. 😀
You are such a freaking good painter. So you can paint something creative of your own that nobody will forget with your skills. You did so good with the realism that maybe now you should try something more abstract. I am also an autodidactic person.
Sonja, if one agonizes over every brushstroke like I often do, that's not "freakin' good" (thanks anayway 😀) but the insecurity of an amateur. It will take time and practice to loosen up and go from jittery lines to confident strokes. As to the "creative" original paintings w/o reference, I do one here and there, just to try.
Too much abstraction, however, you will likely never see from me. It's just not my thing. A little impressionism perhaps, for good measure. All for the enjoyment of the process.
