The other night I bought some Hive as I couldn't sleep.
That made me think about my auto-votes too.
I've set up a fair few people that I got to know or love the stuff of, but I ran out of time to manually vote and was in need to free up some of my time for other things in the offline world.
Some of the users I've set up don't seem to spread the love themselves as much, others don't put much effort into their posts and I don't want to encourage that, so I'll be looking around a bit again.
As my Hive Power increases I need to review amounts anyhow giving me space for new users to choose from.

As your vote grows you feel more responsibility to use it well. Mine is mostly manual, but I add to what @tenkminnows does too. As I get some automatic votes on my posts I feel they need to be of a certain quality. I'm grateful for all the support I get.

Yes, that sure is important, but some bigger accounts don't seem to think that way and are quite shameful with their votes, and I'm not surprised if people give up and prefer to post on other social networks.
I saw the drumming post you shared, that got loads of votes for karaoke and 73 words with no real content, but doubling it up in another language. That is quite shocking!
It's frustrating for others, me included, when you never feel good enough, and to be honest, making the videos takes too much time and effort for little reward which is why I stopped.
I would say that Hive often seems unfair, but that is partly down to how small it is so a few people wield a lot of power. I don't follow or delegate to the big curation projects as I want to target my votes where they do some good. We are the pioneers and have to expect some teething troubles. I make a lot less than some others, but it's still more than i can make anywhere else online. It's fun enough to keep me coming back.
