Yesterday I had some very sad news from my sister.
She had been to the vets with her older rescue dog "Struppi" who hadn't been well for a while, but him being 15 years old it was expected for him to have good and bad days.
But his breathing was quite laboured, which I noticed too over the weekend. It was the first time I've met him as I hadn't been over for so long and Ulrike got him in Autumn 2022. So far I'd only had WhatsApp pictures and videos.
It turned out that the poor chap was full of cancer and the vet suggested to let him go very, very soon indeed for him not to suffer too much, so today was the day and I am glad I got to meet Ulrike's little friend at least this once thanks to the Hive meeting.
Bye, bye, Struppi.. Run free in our garden.. 😢
Gestern hatte ich eine sehr traurige Nachricht von meiner Schwester.
Sie war mit ihrem älteren geretteten Hund „Struppi“ beim Tierarzt gewesen, dem es eine Weile nicht gut ging, aber da er 15 Jahre alt war, war zu erwarten, dass er gute und schlechte Tage haben würde.
Allerdings atmete er ziemlich schwer, was mir am Wochenende auch aufgefallen ist. Es war das erste Mal, dass ich ihn traf, da ich schon so lange nicht da war und Ulrike ihn im Herbst 2022 bekam. Bisher hatte ich nur WhatsApp-Bilder und -Videos.
Es stellte sich heraus, dass der arme Kerl voller Krebs war und der Tierarzt schlug vor, ihn sehr, sehr bald gehen zu lassen, damit er nicht zu sehr leidet. Heute war es also soweit und ich bin froh, dass ich ihn wenigstens einmal kennenlernen durfte dank des Hive-Treffens.
Tschüss, Struppi.. Lauf frei in unserem Garten.. 😢

That last photo is so very sad. It’s a tough time dealing with this sort of thing. Our last dog, went some years ago and I remember walking him to the vet, a walk I made back home alone with just his collar in my hand as a memento. I cried and I cried some more when I got back home. I can’t have another dog because of this.
I can totally understand that, it's horrible. I took my Max back and he's buried in the garden.
But I would always have another dog if possible, we've always had animals and it's a part of life.
I'm glad that with our furry we get the choice to avoid their suffering.
Some people are not so lucky.
I hope I get to see a picture of your dog sometime..
That's such a shame. We can't always tell how much our pets are suffering, but we can try to give them a good life. I think it's really important that people take in rescue animals as so many need homes. Our current foster cat had someone come to see her yesterday, so we hope she will have a new home soon.

Yes, very important! Ulrike might take another but she'll concentrate on her girl first, as she can be too much for other dogs.
Fingers crossed for your cat, great that you foster. More people should do that too
