My Actifit Report Card: August 26 2022

in Actifit2 years ago

I had a weak writing day today because I spent most of the morning preparing for the launch of Alter Data and I’m also just ready for a little break ahead of starting this new job.

It is now out, on both itch.io and DriveThruRPG.

Initial response on itch.io was relatively quiet, but it’s taken off on DriveThruRPG, especially after I sent out an email with a $1 off coupon to anyone who has downloaded one of my games previously and subscribed to follow-up mail. I plan to continue this practice, and I’m not sure if there’s a way to do something similar on itch.io, though I might figure out another way to offer these discounts on future products.

Other than that, I mostly let myself rest. There’s a new game jam that I’ve joined for games that use less commonly used dice, and I plan to make at least one or two games for it including Jovia.

My own AI-based game jam is going to launch in a few days, and I plan to include an overview of how I use Midjourney alongside it to provide some guidelines and overviews for people.

If Alter Data continues to sell, it’s going to be proof that my big/small production strategy will possibly pay off and make Loreshaper Games sustainable, and that will free me up to devote more resources to the other game projects I’m working on.

This reminds me that I really need to get into Oasis Roads seriously again. I’ve done a little nudging and prodding, but I need to get the final Ashcan Edition content (map, travel distances, sample adventures) and the Early Edition content prepared in its own manuscript. This was supposed to be ready by the end of August, though I think I’ve generally been saying “end of September” as the final timeline, and I’m glad that I overestimated so much.

My first day of work at this part-time job is tomorrow. I’m hoping it will give me more stability than the freelancing, with the added benefit of getting a little physical activity and some non-online time to build discipline with regards to the whole “don’t spend too much time on the internet mind virus stuff.”

I’m always a little nervous about doing well, but I think I’ll do fine. After all, I’m somewhat overqualified and just seeking a part-time position so I have a few hundred dollars coming in every month.

I don’t think this is going to seriously impact my writing. In addition to being between 8-15 hours a week, the store I’ll be working at only runs from 10-5 (of course, employees don’t always show up right at open, but that’s still time that I don’t usually get very much productive writing done). It might mildly influence some of my release schedules–for instance, I’ll work next Friday, and I want to try not to release things on weekends in the future (though I suppose if I could release something Friday morning before work I’d be amenable to that).

I’m optimistic about the future overall, and I’m feeling quite good. God is good, life is good.
