Tired. First day of work. It went well.
Massive headache because I forgot to drink water. I’ve had some, but can’t push it or I’m not going to be able to sleep.
Not a great writing day, though it wasn’t really because of work so much as just a consequence of not being disciplined before and after work. I still got in about a thousand words despite the headache (would’ve gotten more if not), and I broke ground on the lengthened version of Jovia and posted the Alter Data update on my blog (which didn’t seem to syndicate over to Hive, but that’s a problem for once I have my good computer back).
I’m very tired, but it’s the good kind of tired. I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t get more steps at work, but I guess that’s just how it’ll go–despite being on my feet for most of the day, I was mostly standing still.
Still, I like this job. It’s not great paying, but it’s a lot less pressure than my old job and I think I can do it pretty well.
The schedule is going to be interesting. I’m mostly doing closing shifts, which are actually at a sane hour (this is new for me, I’ve never worked a job where I am not required to stay after dark at least once in a while, and it’s a massive win), and I sometimes do just a few hours a day (also something that’s good given that I’m taking this to be more stable than mere freelancing and game publishing alone).
The 3:2 form-factor of Alter Data is growing on me, especially because I got a book on typesetting that uses it and now I’m intrigued to see if they explain it. I think it works well with the sort of art that I’m using in my games and gives a neat opportunity to have graphic/table | text layouts (or vice versa) that will be a cool touch. However, as far as I can tell it’s basically a non-starter for any print on demand (there are places that say they’ll do it “print on demand”, but it’d be me calling in batches and trying to distribute them myself, which I don’t want to do and isn’t really print on demand in the vernacular sense.
I might continue looking to see if it’s feasible, because it would even help distinguish our small projects from our large projects, but I just need to see if it’s doable.
