Today's post will be quick because my bed is calling and my stomach still isn't quite right.
Who knew a day filled with sunshine could turn so dramatic?
Today was an example of how unpredictable Dutch weather can be.
This morning started quite beautifully.
The sun peeked through the window, and at 12 degrees Celsius, it was a perfect day for a sweater.
The kids at school were having a blast playing outside, soaking up the rays.
I even joined them for a bit, basking in the sun's warmth.
But when I was soaking up the sun, my weather app hinted at trouble brewing.
Rain clouds were sneaking in from the southwest.
A yellow weather code was declared.
This meant potential strong showers, wind gusts, thunderstorms, and even hail.
I kept an eye on the app, which is usually quite accurate with rain predictions.
Prepared for how quickly it changed this time I was definitely not.
A low rumble in the distance, lightning illuminating the sky.
Suddenly, everything went dark.
A misty haze of wind and rain swept through the area, unleashing its fury.
The intensity was shocking – I hadn't anticipated such heavy rain and strong winds.
Thankfully, I had called the kids inside before the storm hit.
It was a good decision – just a minute later, the wind ripped three large branches off nearby trees and sent them flying through the air.
It was astonishing how far the wind carried these heavy branches.
Hail started pummeling the ground, and the temperature plummeted.
I shivered, unsure if it was from the dramatic weather event or the sudden drop in temperature.
Then, 15 minutes later, everything was calm.
Just as abruptly as it began.
The kids ever so curious ventured outside to assess the damage.
The fallen branches in the schoolyard were a stark reminder of the storm's power.
This experience serves as a reminder of the ever-changing nature of Dutch weather.
It's a good idea to stay updated on forecasts and be prepared for anything!
