My Favourite Videos From Andy's Club # 3

What is Andy's Club? Well, it was originally an initiative with no name and a handful of local musicians and a tiny audience, that was supposed to support original music, budding and new musicians and established and experienced performers (with a strong focus on song writing) on the west coast of Cape Town, since most opportunities are in the Southern Suburbs which is a heck of a trek for those of us living on the other side of the peninsula.

Andy's club has grown exponentially and we filled our very first official venue with the third installment of Andy's Club, #1 and #2 having been hosted at the homes of Andy's Club founders, Matt Roux and Andy Mercer.

We all voted to call the initiative "Andy's Club," despite some protestation from Andy himself, but it just sounded right!

Andy's club #3 was a roaring success and we would out about two weeks before the show. Here are some of my favourite videos from the evening. I hope you enjoy them!

I don't know why but I totally dig this song! Maybe because it's super cool so real! Martin Prochaska telling us exactly who he is with this upbeat song, "Funky Man."

Matt Roux - Billy's Grief

So William Shatner Finally went up into Space and got the chance to get in a rocket, go up into space and to orbit our beautiful planet. His experience and reflection afterwards was not the fairytale we'd all expected from everyone's favourite Captain of he Enterprise. This is Matt Roux's original called "Billy's Grief." A reflection of how life doesn't always turn out the way we plan.

MobeyDick - In My Dreams

This is one of three songs I wrote lately. After a three year dry spell, I just woke up one morning and the words just pored out onto the pages.
It was the most "stage ready," but something compelled me to include certain verses in the song that I didn't understand at the time.
I originally wrote it for my sister and father, but there was something else to it that I couldn't put my finger on.
A week after performing this live for the first time, My Ex Sister in Law passed away at the age of 48. You think you'll always have time to say what you need to, but you really don't. Our time in this world is fleeting.
With much respect, love and empathy to your family, this was really for @SandySparg...You were there for me when everyone else forgot me. You were always there to check on me and show me kindness and love. I will never forget you.
This song is called "In My dreams" and was written by Claire

Rae and Sarah - Catherine is Gone

After over a week, this song is still haunting me. Sarah has such a pure and angelic voice and the harmonies with Raé Swart made it extra special. Here they are performing "Catherine is Gone."

This cover of "The Taxi Song" originally performed by a South African band "Harris Tweed" really encapsulates our current human experience. Such a poignant Cover. Sarah and Raé Swart really do it justice and beyond.
