Music has become a part and parcel of the human existence. These days we get to ask ourselves that "what if there was no music"? how would some people navigate through life, as this has a special place in the lives of many people. Music come in various tunes and serves various purposes. For instance, there are several genres of music in our contemporary world and some of them include afrobeat, rock music, jazz music, hip hop, rap, reggae, classical, countryside, blues, r&B and many more. In view Of this, music serves many advantageous purposes, some of which includes; they serve as entertainment and relaxation purposes, some people use music to express their feelings and emotions through their lyrics, music can be used to reduce stress, music can also be used to elevate mood and energy. For example sometimes when I want to do house chores or some difficult assignments I engage in playing music that will lift up my spirit and make me enjoy the moment.

One dominant genre of music that is popular in Africa especially in Nigeria is there afrobeat. I would really like to clarify one mistake people have concerning the term afrobeat and it's origin. Apparently there are two types, we have the afrobeat and the afrobeats with an 's', I found this out during my research on what afrobeat could mean when a popular musician Wizkid, claimed that he does not produce afrobeat genre of music. The distinction goes thus, the "afrobeat" is the original traditional African genre pioneered by the popular fela kuti. This genre existed in the 1960s and it genuinely had to do with traditional rhythm blended with other genres like jazz and high life like we see in almost all fela's music.

The second distinction is the afrobeats with an 's', it is said that this genre is contemporary and started in the early 2000s. This second aspect of afrobeats is also a traditional African genre but it is blended with international elements of music such as hip hop, dancehall and pop music. This type of music is inherent a popular African musicians style such as Wizkid, davido and burna boy.

Either way, Nigerians have come to accept that no one thing is static rather is allows for change and implementations. For instance, the fusion of afro and modern elements of music has really improved in African musics. These has placed Africans style of music on the global map. These days, African musicians as selected for big and global awards like the grammys and so on. In the previous Grammy, three or four of Nigerian musicians were nominated although they didn't win.

When we go on social media today we hear influencers, big brands and international artist commending afrobeats as one of the greatest music genres in the world. It has become so interesting and entertaining that our musicians are so talented that they display African instrumentals with contemporary elements of music and it blend so well.

These musics are always coming handy in different occasions. I am a lover of good music both local and foreign and different genres. In the African continent, I can proudly say that Nigeria is really taking the lead in producing globally recognized music and the statistics so far goes to show that Nigeria is far ahead in the African music industry. Also Ghana produces great musics because most of their artists collaborate with our artist and vice versa to produce excellent sounds. One thing I like about my country Nigeria is the fact that, we support music from other African countries for instance true collaboration we have gotten to know people like black sheriff King promises gyakie, sarkodie and so many more.

In conclusion, music is one that helps to control emotion and to lighten up mood, sometimes music is all a person needs in a time of depression or facing hard times, his or her emotions can be uplifted by listening to songs that relates to whatever he or she is going through and it can bring about a sign of hope.

Very interesting topic you bring. The truth is that there is a lot of music from Africa, to know.

It would have been interesting if you had added some videos with samples of each of the types of music, with "s" and without...

Oh thank you, would do that another time
