The Adrenaline of Singing in Arabic for a Spanish Speaker | Eng-Esp | Cantando en Arabe

One of the great joys I experienced last month was meeting people from a country and culture I had never been close to before. That opportunity came in the form of Soprano Issra Ben Slimane and Baritone Raies Dhia Eddine, both members of our world choir and representing their country Tunisia. They had driven me crazy because their original language was Arabic, but the girl at least communicated in English and for some reason the guy who was closest to me liked to speak French. The first few days I opted to say "hello" when I saw them and quickly disappeared 😂

Una de las grandes alegrías que viví el mes pasado fue haber conocido personas de un país y una cultura con la cual había tenido ningún acercamiento. Esa oportunidad se dio a través de la Soprano Issra Ben Slimane y el Baritono Raies Dhia Eddine, ambos integrantes de nuestro coro mundial y representando a su país Túnez. Me tenían vuelto loco porque su idioma original era árabe, pero la chica al menos se comunicaba en inglés y por alguna razón el chico que era más cercano a mi le gustaba hablar en francés. Los primeros días yo optaba por decir "hello" cuando los veía y desaparecía rápidamente 😂

We had already sung in Arabic a couple of years ago, and although we already know by heart the international phonetic alphabet which is our secret weapon to prepare the songs in different languages quickly and efficiently, it is still a great challenge because it is not only the elegance of pronouncing the words well, in the case of this music from Tunisia it was also important to interpret them in their style. It was very interesting the fusion that we achieved in the video that I have shared with you, as Issra plays her role of Lyric Soprano very well and Raies gave her the air of the style of singing in her homeland in her little solo. What we all agreed on in the choir was that they had to sing the solos themselves in the Tunisian piece hehe.

Ya habíamos cantado en Árabe hace un par de años, y a pesar de que ya nos sabemos de memoria el alfabeto fonético internacional que es nuestra arma secreta para preparar los cantos en lenguas distintas de manera rápida y eficaz no deja de ser un gran reto porque no es solo la elegancia de pronunciar bien las palabras, en el caso de esta música de Túnez también era importante interpretarlas en su estilo. Fue muy interesante la fusión que logramos en el video que les he compartido, ya que Issra hace muy bien su papel de Soprano Lírico y Raies le dio el aire del estilo del canto en su tierra en su pequeño solo. En lo que sí estábamos de acuerdo todos en el coro era que ellos mismos tenían que cantar los solos de la pieza de Túnez jeje.

As with the girls from Greece, they also brought this music with them when they arrived, but while they were preparing the score to be understandable for Spanish-speaking people a whole week went by, so yes, the most complicated language piece for us had to be prepared in a couple of days only, I remember that I was very stressed when I discovered that they would add this piece to the repertoire, firstly because of the language and secondly because we had already been preparing 30 pieces of music and they commented that many would not go to the final concert, in addition to the pieces of music that were only from the Venezuelan choir and that we would have a separate sample concert. .. A lot of music, a lot of work, but also a lot of pleasure...

Al igual que nos pasó con las chicas de Grecia, ellos también trajeron esta música al llegar, pero mientras preparaban la partitura para ser entendible por la gente de habla hispana pasó toda una semana completa, así que sí, la pieza del idioma más complicado para nosotros tuvimos que prepararla en un ´par de días solamente, recuerdo que me estresé mucho al descubrir que añadirían esta pieza al repertorio, primero por el idioma y segundo porque ya veníamos preparando 30 piezas musicales y comentaban que muchas no irían al concierto final, además de las piezas musicales que eran solo de la coral venezolana y que tendríamos un concierto de muestra aparte... Mucha música, mucho trabajo, pero también mucho placer...

Raies was always accompanied by one of my choir mates who speak French, it was not difficult to communicate with him, as I am always closer to the boys, but with Issra it was more complicated, this girl is only 16 years old so she was hardly ever left alone, But I wanted to meet her even more because at her young age she already sings in front of an orchestra, she is a goddess playing the qanun (popular Arabic instrument) and conducts orchestras, she will be a great world star in the musical environment in which I move and I know that my photo with her will be worth gold. One day in the corridors I met her face to face and she said hello, it turned out that she also spoke English and it was there that I finally broke the ice and greeted her. Raies siempre estaba acompañado de alguno de mis compañeros del coro que dominan el idioma francés, no era difícil comunicarme con él, ya que siempre estoy más cercano a los varones, pero con Issra fue más complicado, esta chica solo tiene 16 años así que casi no la dejaban estar sola, pero más quería conocerla porque a su corta edad ya canta frente a una orquesta, es una diosa tocando el qanun (instrumento popular árabe) y dirige orquestas, ella será una gran estrella mundial en el medio musical en el cual me muevo y sé que mi foto con ella valdrá oro. Un día en los pasillos me la encontré de frente y me respondió el hello, resulta que hablaba también inglés y fue ahí donde al fin rompí el hielo y la saludé. Fue la primera vez en mi vida que me atreví a usar mi inglés y ella entendió todo lo que le dije ❤️ así que no estoy tan mal 😎 La pieza musical del video se titula "Mahla Layali Sevilla", en arreglo musical de Oussama Mhidi, lo edité con shotcut y las fotografías las tomé con mi Tecno Pova II, espero les guste mi experiencia a través de este post...
